I have come to realize that the Japanese make the best engines. Whether it’s Yamaha for outboards, Honda/Kawasaki for small engines or Toyota for cars.

I will admit my “all others are trash” comment was excessive. There are good engines out there. I just don’t think they are on the level of the Japanese.

no worries bro, but I will say Kawasaki rules the roost when it comes to lawnmower engines.

As a general rule a Kawasaki engine on a mower will increase sales of that mower vs one without that brand of engine.

Have had 3 seasons on a Gravely, their the big brother of Ariens I believe. 3 k gets you either their top of the line residential or bottom commercial. I went top residential so it has serviceable hydrostatic with overflows. Been a great mower doing 1 acre and a little more a time.

The yard at my ranch is close to 4 acres. I’ve borrowed a few zero turn mowers in the last few years but Personally I like a tractor style mower. I have two John Deere mowers a X300 42” and a X350 48”. Bought both off Craigslist, both had around 40 hours run time. I paid about 1/4 the price of a new one, so far the X300 has around 200 hours and I’ve had Zero issues at all. The X350 had close to 350 hours and the only issue I’ve had is keeping the deck level. On the X350 I drained the transmission fluid and replaced since the K46 is known to have issues and that made a difference in speed, I’ll be doing the same to the X300 in a few weeks.

Ok to close this thread, my new Ariens XD 52” with the Kawasaki motor arrived yesterday. The price tag was a bit over $3k from a local dealer that I really enjoyed doing business with. I will provide feedback at some point before summer. Thanks to everyone for the input and advice!

I have had a Hustler for about 5 years. No issues thus far. I think I got the Raptor model because it mows faster than a mosquito flies. That sold me right there. FYI- I believe a mosquito can fly up to 6.5 mph and I mow at 8.

Did you get any cuts in? Would love to hear some feedback on the mower.

^ This, all made by MTD.
I would step it up to high end homeowner and get a good 48" in the $5500 - $6000 range. I have a Toro Titan HD that is decent. I preferred the Kawasaki motor on the Titan 4820 I had before as it operated at higher RPM but the HD has better front castors and a bouncy seat. They have the same frame which is better than it's competitors in the same price range. Still don't like the plastic idler pulleys on the belt but you have to step up to a $10k commercial mower to get steel pulleys on a Toro or ExMark.

Looks like I am late the to thread. The Ariens with the Kawasaki engine should be great for your application. We went with a Badboy Maverick 60" with the Kawasaki engine for our 5 acres. In our case we wanted a bit more suspension since we have horses which makes for a rough ride when mowing the pastures.

I don’t have any ZTs to compare to but the cut is great. No need for a mulching kit or bagger and I cut 1.25 acres with 20 or so trees in just under an hour (and getting faster with every cut). My only negative is that my front yard is relatively soft and the back is very hard and bumpy (I guess more compacted and gravely soil). When mowing the back it feels like my head is going to rip off. On my next ZT many years from now hopefully I will look at mowers that have an upgraded suspension system which I imagine has to be in the commercial line. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase at this price point.

You can buy generic Suspension base plates for the seat base. I have had success using them.

You can find them on sale or online in various places.

John Deere Z535M here. Absolutely love it! 54” deck and power bagger.
My father also has a 42” Gravely zero turn that he has been using the past 5 or 6 years to mow his 4 (of 17) acres. That has also been a beast over the years. CCE57A89-DCC4-4670-A977-DF0D9F6F0ED9.jpg
