when I replaced my driver side trim those clips broke off. Wish I had a picture to show you what they look like. But you have an AC so they are cheap to replace if they are looking old and worn

So if I remove those clips, the seal just pulls strait up?

There is 19 years of dirt under there that keeps running down and staining the paint. I want to clean it up under there.

Why not just replace it? Is there any felt left or is it just scraping against the glass? I believe it does pull straight up IIRC.

@FirstGenVol they are surprisingly hard to remove. When I removed mine it was clear they wouldn't go back on again. Idk how some remove them for paint and keep them in good shape. Several tabs snapped too.

When you go to put them back on, push them way forward to the mirror. I had to fight mine a bit and didn't line them up proper, now I have a weird overlap on the handle side that would drive you insane. I'm too afraid to break them to pull them again and they're locked down.

This part needs to go further in

Last time I checked they were mucho dinero. I'll check again. Either way I have to remove to clean under them. The felt feels decent but the outside is rough from the sun.

    @Darkness

This feels sketchy. The mangler is learning. I'm going to check for parts before I destroy these. The white clips will for sure snap but I almost wonder if they are even necessary to hold it down.

They are a bit expensive. I went through @Roman because I couldn't find genuine for less. I was afraid of how aftermarket may fit funny (wouldn't matter now).

Jack is right, they pull straight up but they are really hard to get out. I used a plastic trim tool.

The clips are necessary and I think part of where I messed up is they have alignment spots on the door that have to be met. You have to slide them around a bit on the strip to get the alignment right. I aligned mine best I could to meet the corner by the mirror but I was off by around 1/4".

Best success is to tape off and paint the trim in place on the door. I’ve done this at least twice successfully. Too many Mangle Stories on the pull off from others and like Darkness may end up with a Janked piece on put back.

Conclusion: Low Risk/High Reward is to spend a little time on Blue Tape off and paint and not worry about having to buy an expensive item. If buying new ones is the entry strategy then pull off has to happen regardless.

PHM is right ^ but might be hard to clean what you want. The rubber crap was too hard to peel off of mine, painting in place was my original thought but mine were chipped to hell.

Whatever you do, don't use the impact gun here :D

They shipped in an unusually large box too. It was seriously huge. I was expecting like a poster tube size package, you could fit a pair of front axles in the box they arrived in.

@FirstGenVol This might be helpful... I remember having to cut the OEM replacements since they were too long.

I bet they are close to the same but on the 4runner I think I gently lifted the lower edge which exposes part of the clip, then used a bamboo skewer and pushed in as I tried to lift up. I also put tape below so I wouldn’t scratch anything

Yes if it were not for the gunk under there, I would just paint in place like PHM is suggesting. You should see how nasty it was behind my mirrors when I removed them. All that crap was running down every time it rained and the stains were so bad at times that I had to wax them off. Soap wouldn't do it. The same thing is happening with these seals.

@Jack McCarthy solid link you shared there. They actually are not as expensive as I was expecting and one person claims they come with the new plastic clips. I might have to spend some of my "stimilis monies" on these.

I had a Honda many years ago and brushed on some flat black rustoleum. It looked great for a decade after when I sold the car.

Had the driver side after-cat curve into y pipe fall off my tundra last week while going to pick up a cap. Just got a pipe bent to fit and had the shop cut the resonator out (also rusted, leaked like a sieve), and put a flowmaster 40 on that my buddy gave me. Super impressed with how little drone there is, since I do a lot of road running. Haven't really given it the full out-of-city road test yet but, that's happening tomorrow.

My first baby step into the custom exhaust world...Probably will rust this setup into the ground and then look at a full system upgrade.

Now to get back to sealing up my cap for backwoods camping!

Well first NUT on the donut clamp at the exhaust stripped like it was made of rust! Cut the bracket off. All other bolts came out or snapped them off(at the header collector most of the snapped) I started on the driver side, trying to remove the dip stick; stupid suction accumulator for the AC gets in the way, so I started to loosen the motor mount but it’s dinner time soon. Tomorrow I’ll get at it, full tare down up to the manifolds was around an hour, hopefully tomorrow will go smoothly

Uninsured motorist insurance will have me covered if not it sounds like. Also the damage us very minimal.

Best part is dude tried to run on foot. Singular foot because the other one was in a cast from last weeks encounter with a k9 officer. People are fucking stupid.

Basically he turned into my Cul-de-Sac, spun it around in an "OH SHIT" moment and hit my rig. Then he tried to run into my house where he was luckily (for him) tackled on my front porch.

"Did you witness any use of force?"

"Not near as much as if he had made it inside!"

My driver side one is exactly like that. It came that way from the factory, which only proves it's that much more difficult.

I installed new shoes and brake hardware today. I reused my oem drum since it was barely worn and still in round. Plus I've read empty_lord's horror stories on non-oem drums. I just hit them with a coat of gloss black paint.

I had to reuse the springs for the star adjusters just because the autostoned ones were too tight and making the mechanism bind up.

I took PHMs advice and made sure I put some brake grease on the friction points on the dust shield thing.

I should be in the clear until I do my rear disk conversion in a year or so probably.

There is no shortage of crazy in this post. Oddly, the graphics on the PT Cruiser barely hit the radar.

Whew. Glad things are mostly okay.

Maybe the 05-06 have the accumulator sitting up a bit higher, but I changed out the dipstick tube no problem on my 04 as it was in bad shape. I was able to get really good access to the bolt from underneath the truck and a long extension.

I installed an oxygen sensor fouler today. The kit I ordered came with pieces for a Screw in type sensor also.

I'm guessing that these threads are for the V8 screw in types.

I don't have need for this, because both of my 02 sensors bolt on. It's for sale. Send me a PM.

I don't see any need in starting a FOR SALE thread just for this little thing.
