It blows my mind that someone wouldn’t just walk up and snap some interior pics while these were sitting there. Or even a quick pic from underneath towards the engine. Would take a few seconds and probably answer a ton of people’s questions ha

You answered your own question essentially - they're in very high demand, get them and you can make money off of them. Hold them ransom and wait until one of the sites pays what you want

Ah, good point. I’m not so greedy i guess. I’d shove them straight on here without even thinking twice about trying to get money for them ha

Here's the thing, and I'm coming from a 3.5 Ecoboost. You're not going to see any sort of significant fuel economy gains unless you drive a lot of highway mileage, at the speed limit, not in traffic, and don't modify your truck with lifts and wheel packages. I don't care how much lighter they make it, V6 twin turbos, whatever, around town, stop and go, accelerating, these things are pigs. If you're worried about the price of gas, please don't buy any pickup. As reliable a vehicle that Toyota makes, and they're right at the top, adding in all these things to save a little bit of fuel here and there will hurt reliability. Not saying it will be unreliable, but would have to be less then the current. If I didn't have a truck, it wouldn't deter me from buying the upcoming new one. But if I was in the market right now, I'd be getting the current offering if I could get my hands on one.

This is where I'm hoping the Toyota hybrid will work wonders. The straight V6TT will get 24 MPG at best, 18 combined more likely, hardly worth a thing over the current 5.7. But the hybrid I'm looking for it to keep the gas engine off the boost for much of the typical driving, and thus getting significant gains over the 5.7 - both in power and fuel economy.

Most people who have a need for pickups realize fuel economy is pretty low on the reasons to buy a certain brand, but so many buyers really only need a compact car but like the idea of a big, intimidating pickup so look for things that are important in compact cars (fuel economy, nice ride) in a pickup. The Tundra is a niche vehicle to Toyota, the car/CUV market is their money maker, so unlike Ford they're not going to have nearly unlimited choices to try and satisfy everyone.

Hybrids have big, expensive batteries that don’t last forever. Not something I’m interested in ATM. Someone recently said that, in the future, cars and trucks definitely will use alternative fuels...but they won’t be electric.

Toyota warranties the battery’s for 10y/150k miles. That means toyota is very confident in the batteries lasting at least that long.

Because of gov regulations new cars are being built to be recycled. New vehicles won’t be on the road for 30 years like the old days. With the exception of HD trucks, I think the tundra was the last vehicles that can be maintained and kept running for 20+ years and still be fiscally smart move for the owner.

I have a 2007 Lexus RX 400 H with 150,000 miles. If they’re using the same type of battery that is in my car I don’t think we’ll have a problem, 14 years on mine.

No, batteries are most definitely going to be the future. The battery wont look the same as they do now, but it will be a battery. If we were going to be running cars off hydrogen or some other fuel, you would have seen it pop up by now, a lot of research dollars have been put into alternative fuels and alternative drivetrains and electric is what has won.

Also keep in mind, these batteries are modular, so you only have to replace the bad cells, not the entire battery. There are many priuses out there that have 200,000+ miles on them with the original batteries so that does not concern me.

When I bought my 2020 the thought was that the new version was going to be out in 2021. I snapped up the 2020. I want a dinosaur that is still going to be running when the new version is a dinosaur. I want longevity with zero issues.

I appreciate you saying this. I mean, I HOPE we're wrong on this...but the only people I know who get great gas mileage on Ecoboosts are people who buy a truck....and then literally just do a buttload of highway driving *and* manage to keep their foot out of it (which is just about nobody lol). I'm glad they get better gas mileage than I do, but if 99% of what they do with it is driving....I mean, that's not what a truck is intended for.

Most people who own trucks *at all* where I live (right outside an Army post in Missouri) do *not* leave them stock. They're lifted anywhere from 3 to 6 inches, and they sure as hell do not drive the speed limit. LOL The 3 guys I work with who own Ecoboosts get right around 15-16MPG on average, which is about what I get. Granted, if they take long highway trips, they'll get better gas mileage than I do.

I was sort of in the same mindset as you when I bought my 2021. I had been holding out for a redesign of the Tundra for a couple of years while still tooling around in my FJ with two growing kids. I finally pulled the trigger last October when it seemed Toyota would never release what was coming. I'm glad I did. Although I would likely have bought whatever they come out with, I'm perfectly happy having the last model year of 5.7L Tundra. I'll never have to worry about getting rid of it if I decide to buy newer. There are enough guys on this forum that seem inclined to take it :)

Agree with some other posters on here about the hybrid tundra. I'm not going to be giving up my 2019 for a regular TTV6.

With just a rough calculation based off current gas prices in Nevada, if the new truck gets 18 combined I'll save $1,000 a year in gas. Mind you, I rarely ever drive on the highway, and my commute to work is 5, all mountain miles, and I put 10k miles on my truck per year.

However, if the Hybrid gets 25+ I start to really save money over the long term. It's also nice to have a fast, quiet vehicle up and around Reno/Tahoe. I'll bite at the Hybrid, but only after the first year hiccups get sorted.

Hybrid battery packs are not as big as a full EV, They are meant to provide the starting momentum where most gas would be used and to provide a more seamless start stop function. Also I believe Toyota warranties the batteries for 10 years/150k miles. my friend replaced his battery in a old 2006 Prius just last year and was $1500 plus labor

I honesty would not even worry about the first year hiccups, the new tundra has been testing for awhile. Some spy shots are from 2019.....also Toyota has been in the hybrid game for over 20 years.

I'm sure that's a much smaller battery but still, if it was only $1,500, that really isn't bad at all.

True, the bought he Prius new and the battery lasted I guess about 13-14 years. I guess it should be noted battery tech has come along way since then so could honestly be the same size...lol

Problems usually arise once production is ramped up by the manufacturer and suppliers. Not to say it won't be good the first year, from my experience my best vehicles were first year models and if I had any issue the dealer was more helpful. Which makes sense, you don't want issues with a new model or a bad look so you solve issues quickly without much debate.

I purchased a brand new 2014 impala of the new redesign was flawless for the 5 years I had it. I took the plunged and bought the new venza for my wife which is all new. One thing we have to keep in mind Toyota is not going to want their reliability rating and awards fall, let alone peoples faith in the brand.

I had a 2014 Tundra (14mpg), then traded it for a 2018 Tacoma (19mpg). The family has grown and now I'm missing the Tundra.

I'm not really interested in the Hybrid... the extra initial cost doesn't seem to offset the increase in mpg. Most of my driving is highway anyway. I do like the idea of a TTV6. If it can average 18mpg instead of 14mpg, on a 38 gallon tank that's an extra 150 miles in range, which is huge.

Driving 15,000 miles per year paying for California fuel at $3.89, the difference between 14mpg and 18mpg is still only about a $900 savings annually.

Depends on what the initial cost is. On the Corolla, for example, if I recall correctly, the hybrid only costs about $2k more but it gets double the fuel economy according to the EPA (50 mpg vs 25 for the non-hybrid). If I drive 6000 miles a year and gas is about $4/gallon here, that pays for itself in less than 4 years.

The hybrid F-150 gets 25/26mpg and is a $4495 upgade.

    6,000 miles/26mpg (Hybrid TTV6) = 231 gallons x $4/gallon = $923
    6,000 miles/18mpg (TTV6) = 333 gallons x $4/gallon = $1333

You'll save about $410 in fuel per year.

    $4495 / $410 = 11 years to break even based on Ford's hybrid.

Understood. Like I said, it all depends on how much Toyota decides to charge for that hybrid and what fuel economy the 2022+ gets with and without hybrid assist.

If there's anything I'm less interested in owning than an F-150, it's a hybrid F-150. Ford can't even make reliable ICEs and they've been doing it for over 100 years...

Agreed, but then again I see a ton of people complaining about stuff even here. ("WTF isn't there a transmission cooler on the 2020 Tundra?")

I seriously do not see Toyota making any mistakes with this, but by the same token, given the mistakes I see everyone ELSE making, and the fact that I've been bitten by the 1st year hiccups - as well as the fact that my 2020 will be paid off by the time the 2022 comes out - I've got no issues waiting.

Besides, even if it comes out with a strong TTV6, I do not at all see it immediately rendering current generation Tundras unworthy. I've been at a stop sign with many different trucks, and for some reason, every time, I'll see them line up to 'race' with other trucks but immediately sort of pause when next to Tundras, as if to say "Not sure I want to do this..." LOL

I figure I'll pay my truck off, then buy and pay off wife's Highlander; and THEN I'll look at the new TTV6.

    Only two options are needed for the '22. 6.2L NA V8 +500 HP/TQ & 4.0 V6 Hybrid 390~440 combined HP/TQ, 28MPG. Everything else is dumb
