What kind of camper do you have???

Yes , couldn’t go myself last year , we stayed in MA mainly Normandy farms and mystic Koa , hoping this year we can make it to NH and VT.
I am all the way down at MA/ RI border

 

That's the suspension setup I'm going for. What did you have your front shocks set to, and which size shackles did you go with? I'm also pulling a rather large trailer myself, Jayco 28BHBE. I'm looking to slightly raise the truck and maybe have minimal rake by adding CB shackles.

What does your set up weigh?

 

Dude - I went middle setting with 2 shims driver, 1 passenger and the +2 rears. With the bags at minimum pressure (unloaded), I'm at an even 2" rake. Without the bags I was at 1.5" rake. I will say that i without bags, i felt the rear was aofter than the front at middle setting and the bags really evened that out.

I'm genuinely excited about towing with his setup. The trailer, with typical load and about 15 gallons of water on board, runs around 7500lbs. If you need any measurements, let me know. I took pre lift, just 5160 on lowest, lift before bags and then entire set up with tires.

Will need to reconfigure and weigh everything since it's all different now. That'll be early May.

Edit: comment about rear being softer is while unloaded, as I have yet to tow with the middle setting and rear shackles.

@bflooks & @Jtundra81 - Here in Rhode Island, i'm towing a 27BH' KZ sportsman with my new 2020 TRD Sport DC, also adding the trans cooler this spring. It's on it's way should be here any day now. My wife and I traveled a lot last year, we camped New Hampshire, and Maine with no issues. Headed for a trip back up to Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire and PA this year. Always watching out for fellow Tundra owner on the road towing there TT, Happy Camping - CHEERS...

 

Open to sharing rough itineraries with you both in the event things align. We're off to Great Pond, ME, a few MA locals (Mt Greylock and Pinewood Lodge), Newport, Ri, Lake George, NY, and considering Mystic, CT

If you have recommendations for Mystic, we're all ears.

PA, southern NY, and likely the WV, OH, IL, maybe KY are next year, if not I-95 to Disney in '21

What temps were you seeing ?

It’s a solo stove. The middle size.

 

I was seeing temps in the range of 240 - 275*F. Way too high for me. I am going to install the cooler myself. I am a Diesel Technician so it shouldn't be a big deal. Those temperatures will be very dangers over time. Could be catistraphic over time. I will wait till April (warmer weather) to install the cooler. Keep you posted on how it goes. There is a very good youtube video on the install procedure.

Yes those temps are bit high , do you keep it on D or s4/5 while towing?

 

Tow Haul, 4th/5th. Depends on the road, if it is a heavy incline, i'll drop it to 4th, watch the trans temps and shift upwards or downward as the temps increase. All depends on the weather too. My buddy has a 2019 GMC 2500 and tows a 5th wheel and he has the 6.2L and he does the same thing. So, really every truck has the same issue as we do with our Tundra's. No such thing as set it and forget it when towing.

 

True, my trailer is around 4000lb and I keep it at s4 and around 60mph , temps average 215 and around 218 on climbs .
Waiting for the 2022 to see if I trade this or keep it . I will install the cooler if I do

The 4runner got tow duty because the Tundra doesn't have a 4 pin.

 

Home made teardrop that I acquired. My wife loves it. Super tiny and I sleep like shit in it, bug again my wife loves it. I want a bigger tear drop in the future.

How does the Tundra handle towing the Roo? Are you using a WDH? I’m picking my Roo on Friday.

 

That’s a beautiful campground! Been there many times, but not with our current set up with the Tundra.

 

It does a great job!
And yes for sure I would recommend and I am using WDH.

When the all tanks are full you can for sure feel the trailer back there. But when I have most of them empty it pulls it with no problem! Most of the time I have them mostly empty unless we are going to camp where we have no hookups.

I agree, hadn’t been down there for 3 years. Was nice going through the trails early before it got busy. We had cedar falls to ourselves, and only saw 8 people at old mans cave. After lunch the parking lot over there was overflowing. People parking in grass etc.

 

Yeah, it gets crazy there sometimes. Unfortunately my hiking days are over. My wife can’t hike anymore and I’m not going by myself!

My trailer is invisible because we can’t find one! Haha hopefully will be getting a mid size camper something like the Salem cruiselite 243bhxl or apex 245bhs. Something with double bunks, queen bed and a u dinette.
