How much oil would come out if...

    you left the drain plug intact but had to drop the oil filter out and change just the filter.

    You will lose a few ounces when you release the cartridge drain plug.
    If changing the filter, you will also lose what oil is in the filter media.

    Per the Manual oil change :

    With Filter 8.5Qt (8.0L)
    Without Filter 7.9Qt ( 7.5L)

    I would think you will lose 0.6 Qt when you change just the oil filter.

    Alot of them
    I pulled mine when I sold my 2013 because I wanted to keep the aluminum housing. I didnt lose much at all, and significantly less that 1/2 qt IIRC.
