Catalytic converter skid plates & theft deterrent

True but who would want to cut through something painted red if they don't know what it is? It could be a booby trap.

 

Maybe you could just write “NOT A CATALYTIC CONVERTER” on the side of all four of them? In red of course.

 

Engrave your vin number on the cat. Or weld to your frame.

I've also thought about making a concrete bump in your driveway so when you park you drive over it so it's under the middle of your truck, theres no access to the underside of your truck.

 

Exactly my thoughts, you might accidentally shoot the truck.

 

I thought about the same thing, slab over slab. Also thought about holes to sink the truck down like a low rider. Makes it easier to get in and out too. Also thinking about just making a wooden box out of 2x6 on edge then fasten it to the driveway and park over it with enough air gap to prevent fire of course or use steel plate, wood just cheaper and lighter. Regardless, make it difficult, they might just be pissed and smash the windshield or scratch up the paint, cut brakelines, etc. All too often wish I still had my old beaters! Go in the store and leave them open with keys in no worries.

Amen Brother!...Better times..Door dents..who cares ...Now I’m building an amor-plated tank and fear-parking a couple of miles away having to Uber back to the store... And this is progress?..Maybe for my waistline...and a thinner wallet

 

this is why i still use my 02 ranger single cab for grinding out errands. dont care what happens to it, can put cigs out on the dash, nobody even looks at it. Not as much fun but it does get way better mileage.

 

Had one of these when I was a young man...Cut the Cat off myself to be able to run cheap Mexican gas.... Ironically, They JUST stole the whole thing!

The problem is they are hitting trucks while they are at hotels and other places also. A story popped up on Google News this morning about a guy up North who had his stolen in a Safeway parking lot while he was shopping.

 

My borther-in-law had the cats in his Tacoma cut out two different times while at work (CostCo).

 

We have had 14 catalytic converters stolen in the last month in Paso Robles area.

 

They seem to be focusing on the diesels a around here. Southwestern Bell had all of their trucks cats stolen over the weekend.

 

What bolts are people ordering for the Valhalla’s?

 

I send standard hex bolts, you can get custom bolts made, but they are expensive

 

I bought the DE kit already. Kent was very easy to work with. But yes he’s super swamped. I waited over a month.

I do wish I had known of Tyler’s rear plate though. I likely would have just purchased both from him.

Anyone know what matching gauge/thickness I should order for Tyler’s rear plate to match my DE plate?

I actually don’t know what thickness plates he makes, my thinnest is 1/8 steel

I am shipping out at least 5 plates tomorrow (I packaged them today). Those who are getting them shipped to know by now, but that isn’t to say there isn’t more coming

 

Just curious what are most guys going with? Front and rear?

 

All over the the place. I would say 1/4” aluminum may have the lead though

 

They are 10 Guage which is closest to 9/64ths.

It will be a very busy weekend, but I want to say all orders should be shipped next week unless the plates are powder coated
