Interesting article on how this is more efficient way to quick charge an EV.

I would be interested in a hybrid vehicle for sure. Full EV.....still doesn't have the performance I'm looking for.

This is not true. I sell gas station equipment and just supplied two stations in Petaluma new tanks and dispensers.
If it was true, we would know about it.

You had several top political dawgs give interviews after this and they got pretty close. Renewable certainly played a role in the failure, but it wasn't the only cause like they tried to claim. Most of it was piss poor planning by a state that thinks they are too great to fail.

I guess this is a bad time to mention I think TX is the most overrated state in the country? :stirthepot:

    "Model T" analogy.

The difference is that government wasn't banning hay and horses and punishing people for riding a horse, nor was government bribing consumers with huge sales subsidies to incentivize those who would not have otherwise purchased a Model T.

Sure... EVs fit a niche, but the consumer is savvy enough to know what works for them and what doesn't. If the American consumer wanted it there would be no reason for government meddling with the myriad of punishments and incentives to push consumers into doing something they otherwise would not do.

60% of electricity in this nation is generated by evil fossil fuels. Another 20% is via evil nuclear power plants. So... the image of a generator operating an EV charging station is very much on target.

Once again, it wasn’t the state that failed. It was ERCOT who failed the state.
I see you’re from Tennessee. I really enjoyed SMNP. It’s okay if you don’t like Texas. Not all people are good with jealousy! :quickdraw:

Large wind farms are already known to disrupt migratory bird flight when located in their pathway. Some of those wind farms are massive.

Instead of putting solar panels all over the place they should be taking areas and planting more trees . Trees breath in the c02 and give off oxygen but apparently cutting them down to put up “green energy” is the way to go .

BINGO. The truth is usually beneath the headlines. The elites do not want you in an electric car. They just want your gas car gone

Fortunately, one tree was left standing on the horizon of this solar farm. Hopefully the next generation will have something to remember how the landscape used to be.

Texas was never on the national grid. There was no cord to cut. The fear is that an event like the one that happened in 1971 in the northeast could leave Texas without power if a neighboring state had a "cascade failure". Texas power companies requested permission to fire up idled power plants to avoid the power outages when this last event was predicted, but were denied permission due to pollution concerns. Hopefully, the next time a weather event of that magnitude is predicted, they'll simply fire up the plants and tell the Feds to go pound sand if they don't like it.

Makes sense. Texas is pretty big. Come to think of it Texas' grid predates WW2. I'm sure the grid will get beefed up now to handle another major cold snap.

Actually, there's a lot of love for solar panels where their strong points are best utilized. Take for example third world s-holes with no infrastructure. Perfect solution.

So much hype for solar panels. Installation cost, maintenance, and loss of efficiency due to time and temperature all have to be factored in. Solar panels lose somewhere in the neighborhood of 1% of their output each year. Efficiency also drops due to heat and that's about .5% per degree for anything over 77 degrees. In full Texas sun, a solar panel can reach 150 degrees. Very roughly that's a 35% drop. If you put in your nice new solar panels, after 10 years they're struggling to give you half the power you paid for. It'll be interesting to see what happens to house resale values when the 15 year note (heaven forbid it was a 30 year note) is paid off and prospective buyers realize they'll need to roll the price of a completely new solar system into the mortgage.

I'm sure it works great if the only thing you're doing is charging a battery for a single light, and maybe a radio, and cell phone charger.

ERCOT wasn’t denied permission, they 100% chose not to ramp up because they didn’t want to pay the $1,500/KWh emissions penalty. The doc is out there that the DOE sent to ERCOT in response to ERCOT asking to ramp it up. They were told yes they could but there’s a hefty penalty. They decided to pay the onslaught of lawsuits instead of the fines, thinking they could lie thru the lawsuits and they’d end up costing less than the penalties. They were wrong. They will pay a shit ton more due to deaths and damage costs.

Federal government shouldn't be threatening to penalize anyone for delivering power to customers in anticipated emergency conditions. As usual, there's a pencil-neck federal geek delivering misery and death for your own good.
