What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

It does capture some dirt and debris initially, but over time the Doughy Matte Shell then repels the dirt and debris. You’ve seen some pics already. I’ll post more later tonight.

 

Last night I got everything hooked up on the new engine; as you heard, the wiring only goes a specific way and took way longer than expected, but thanks to @FirstGenVol and @Sirfive's last-minute pictures/assistance, it played out. I put 5 gals of fresh gas in, just in case the old fuel was getting nasty. Today it just needs oil, the intake hose, a couple vac lines connected, crank dampener torqued, serp belt, and that's it. Battery is fully trickle-charged so won't need to be jumped.

I think I'm gonna get to drive my truck home today! So looking forward to not having Toyota's engine diagrams section be my most visited website.

 

Spent some time washing the undercarriage to get rid of salty mud. Also did some sucky-sucky on the power steering reservoir. Refilled, drove around the yard going full-lock driver to full-lock passenger, then repeated the whole process. I will continue to do this every so often for the next few weeks. See the boogers at the bottom others have noted.

Well... I replaced the driver side plastic overhead light lens/switch.

Funny... I got a 2000 SR5 Access 4wd with over a quarter million miles on it. It was at the point of tending to things that have been ignored or trading it. Decided to keep it. So... in the last couple weeks: Radiator and hoses, water pump. Fixed A/C leaking charging ports. Timing and serpentine belt. Replaced leaking power steering hoses. Front/Rear differential and transfer case fluids. Replaced leaking valve cover gaskets, seals and new spark plugs. Engine oil and air filter... and probably a couple other things I forget. So... I think to myself it's done! Then... I pressed on the overhead light and the plastic lens/switch falls out. Ha!

Coondog is happy to ride....

 

Finished feather dusting the grounds. The rear block ground is a pain to get to/see........ and it’s a 12mm head where all the others are 10mm. My firewall bolt looked a little buggered up, so I went into my Toyota bolt stache; the exact reason I don’t sell any spare bolts on clarkslist or tracebook marketface!
I’ll take her for a spin in a few, see if the mojo is properly flowing to Mother Earth.

 

Yep, it's definitely time to service it. Everything in my truck eats lots of dust. I've never touched the system until now mainly because I haven't had any issues with it (and it wasn't always this bad). I will save each bottle to compare to the next. This junk at the bottom definitely has a snot-like consistency.

 

I'd just do a flush, pretty easy. That stuff is nar nar.

 

Getting the Tuna ready for a big trip, leaving tomorrow. Changed the oil (5W 30 Fram synthetic) without having to remove that stinkin OE skid for the first time since getting my Skid Row plate. Much more pleasurable of an experience... and faster.
Trip will be about 1100 miles each way with misc driving while I'm there, I'll zero my odo before I split. It'll be about a week's worth of flyfishing at Pyramid Lake in NV for Lahontan Trout, should be a great time. I'll take some pics along the way. Pretty confident the ol Tuna is up to the task... thanks to much help from youse guys!

Sorry for the delay @jImmegart the last week+ has been absolute hell.
I finally got the camera shipped back to the company to get tested. I am still waiting to get it back, but the handle works great so far. I am going to hang on to my original just in case something breaks I have spare internals.

I saw that you also have a 2003, so to make it easier for you, here is the back-up trigger wire location. It is behind the glove compartment; there are two connectors just behind the air vent duct. You want wire #2 from the right side, on the Grey connector, The Red with Black trace (R/B)

I’m curious whether any rust develops inside the tank from water/condensate occasionally getting inside.

 

Me too. I think there is a lip bubble around and under the Fuel Pump Cover that in conjunction with the Gasket keeps the water out. We will find out more this week. I’ve never had a Fuel Problem as she is fed good gas.

Just watched a few videos and looks pretty straight forward. Read the FSM. I’m doing the External Fuel Filter simultaneously as the lines will be run dry with Engine Running and the Pump disconnected first.

One guys vid of his 2002 had a few rust chunks on the little yellow in tank filter, but overall pretty clean on his with 190k miles.

Fun fact, the E bolt is for grounds. Not using them on grounds can cause issues

 

Not yet. Hopefully I will talk to them early next week and know whether it's the camera or something on my end.

 

It’s weird because the bolt I pulled out that was kinda stripped, didn’t have the E, it had two dashes, on opposing sides(one dash on each side)
That was bolt holding braided ground strap on back firewall.

Yeah. I don’t remember any E on any of mine either.

 

The threads look different. On our trucks some don’t have the E. But they’ll have the “aggressive” threads. This is normal, it’s designed for a better bite

 

It also makes me wonder where I got the .......E from?!
I thought most of that hardware in my jar was from the 4runner, but I haven’t even removed much from the tundra......

 

Didn't do anything to the truck today but we did drive it back to the mountains to go hiking. Tomorrow I'll try to tackle the brake light issue.

It goes into the "alt s" fuse location. This is the voltage going to the computer and makes it think I needs to put out an extra .5-1 volt.

It will work for a regular battery, but it might be worth checking to be sure you aren't exceeding your particular batteries recommended charging voltage.

And I watched this video before I bought the diode just to understand what I'm doing. I definitely had to grind down some plastic on the diode for it to fit like expected.

Does the final film get onto your hands and stuff super easy like it does new? I schmeared grease on my cross member when I did my 4wd conversion. It was bothersome when I did my exhaust cat ctrl+z mod. Almost as bad as anti-sieze.

 

Only the "wet" spots that haven't yet become a tacky film. Once tacky, no more sticky in my experience.
