Preparing for summer heat so I serviced both home A/C units.

I replaced both condenser fan motors, starters and capacitors. Also cleaned condenser and evaporator coils and replaced air filters.

Since covid, HVAC parts are harder to get and more expensive, I chose not to wait for a possible failure during mid summer heat.

Finished up the firewood rack that the wife wanted to hoard her plants on. Made from old steel tubing from farm field hose reels. Mig welded and capped off, rattle canned black and cleared over, and cheap pine stained and covered with poly.

No fires to fight today so I was able to work on the house. The “Catio” was in need of work. The previous owner of this house made an 8’ by 8’ covered patio and screened the interior with chicken wire. He had a parakeet and made it a giant birdcage for it. Pretty cool. Last summer we left our sliding door, which leads to the Catio, open to it as it was the only way to get some cool air in the house. No A/C after all. Problem with that was all the bugs and mosquitoes that got in the house.
Also there was a glass window for some reason.

    Before.

Added a lot of 2x4s. Plan for tomorrow is finish the screen and cover it all with the same plastic lattice that’s at the bottom.

30 bags of cedar mulch that we ordered from the local Scouts came in early yesterday morning. Neighbor had an emergency and I spent most of the morning in the ER with him. After I brought him home, wasn't much in the mood to work on the yard.

Today, I used 19 of the bags and mulched the front gardens. The roses are coming back like crazy - makes me happy.

Does anyone have experiene or opinions on luxury vinyl tile(LVT). We're buying a house that's going to need new flooring and I was looking at this option.

I put the Cali Bamboo Vinyl Pro in my living room a little bit ago. I can't recommend it enough, super easy to lay and it feels much nicer underfoot than the Pergo laminate we have in another room.

I wasn't planning to lay it myself initially but I was looking at the instructions. Is it really cut with a utility knife? It says you don't even need a saw.

Shower lines moved over and niche was framed in. Toilet hole partially filled with cement. Had to wait for the tile guy to provide his input on the step down shower before pouring anything there. Today I removed all the carpet, padding, and baseboards from the master bedroom and walk in closet. Took my time and removed all the nails too in preparationof the tile guy who will be here tomorrow morning to get started.

Yes and no. Yes you can cut it with a knife but it's not super easy to score a line on a 4ft long plank. The short sides are pretty easy but I used a miter saw to do 95% of the cuts.

Got our level platform built and the rack mounted in the new garage. Very pleased with how this turned out. I thought I'd be upset with matching height of the foundation, but the step up isn't so bad.

Also repainted an old dresser and added a new top to match the crib in our nursery, and it'll work double duty as a changing station. Busy weekend with help from family.

I just installed it upstairs in about 500 square feet. I was a little skeptical about the cutting with a utility knife, but thats what I did. I basically scored it hard with the blade, popped it across my knee, then cut the back side foam with the blade. It went really quick. The only hard part was cutting the corners and around items that you're not scoring/cutting all the way across and are just notching a piece out. I was able to use the utility knife, but it was definitely harder to do. I like it though!
