1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

When I went to my brothers last weekend I thought about how nice it was before Covid. There is a Toyota dealer a few blocks away from him where I used to get a free lunch any Saturday. When weather permits they had a BBQ set up, totally free. Free hot dog or burger, chips and a soda. I'd buy an oil filter just to not feel like a freeloader.

 

Our sparkies at work are like that; I always joke around; if someplace was giving away free dog turds, those guys would come back with two each......

 

I use to work at the ultra expensive 5 diamond 5 star Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach many years ago, the free food was the best. I could care less about everything else but the food I truly miss.

 

Yeah - that's just suspicious to a Yankee.

 

Maybe its just a western thing, but we wave to everyone. Especially in a small town... If you don't wave back in a small town or at least give the ol head nod, you're treated differently.

 

One day when I get a scooter I'm gonna wave at all the Harley and street bike people.

Depends largely on the driver from my experience, especially if you're only using it for your own driveway. I plowed small lots and driveways for about 10 years with a 99 Dakota and 98 Cherokee no issues from plowing with either one.

A lot of folks seem to think they're driving a dozer or slam from forward to reverse while still moving, those are the two big culprits.

 

Riding a dual sport on the street is interesting. Half of the Harley guys will wave to you first while the other half will flat out ignore you if you wave.

 

I'm training all the young folks here at work about the evils of the big C.

Now I'm gonna Forrest Gump wave at any Yankee plated vehicle I see down here. Maybe that will keep youn's from moving down here and screwing up our country livin.

 

Rust is the issue plow trucks suffer from that I see. The plow truck at work is 27k miles. But the frame is held together by rust..

 

I wanted to pop in, and say this.

All y'all going on about that toe pad in the products section have obviously never seen a KY fuckle knuckle and it shows.

 

Here too but only if they are salting or plowing salted lots.

Our oldest truck on campus is an 2011 F350 last I remember it's got less than 40k on it and both rockers and door bottoms are gone and that's considering they get washed at least weekly all year round. They use an ridiculous amount of salt on campus though, like this morning I came in and the lots were dry but salted this morning just in case we get the inch of snow forecasted.

 

I do. Its rarely returned but I do it Anyways. I used to pass a guy on my way to work. He was in an old buick and he waved at me everyday. In fact he waves at it seemed like everybody he met on this rural 2 lane. It made me happy. I do a modified version. If they are not staring at their phone I wave.

 

Biked my butt to work today. Feel good about that. usually bike a few times a week during the nicer months, never this early in the year. Dark and freezing. Hoping to hit 50+ rides this season.

That is a solid goal. I used to ride to work. It was 25 minutes drive or 40 to ride. It made it easy to get a couple extra rides in a week. Then the company moved, I quit and eliminated the commute completely. Unfortunately I also ride my bike less.

Yep. Ride in is fairly easy, 25 minutes, only 10-15 longer then if I drove. Ride home is hard and up hill And takes about twice as long but makes for a great workout. Save time combining workout and commute.

Not to mention saves gas money and mileage. Which I see gas is quickly approaching $3/gal in my area. Extra motivation.

 

After many years of owning motorcycles, I tried a scooter. I couldn't believe how much fun 150cc's could be. It was really cheap to insure, got almost 100mpg, and was a great grocery getter! I had to get rid of it because nobody waved back at me.

That's been my experience as well.

 

One of my good friends in HS had one. We took the top off all the time. It was a pivotal vehicle for me. I would not have bought my 3rd gen without that experience. I am also happy to not have a 1st gen.
