I really want to upgrade and definitely want to go with James from 21v. I'm wondering if anyone can give me feedback on replacing only the amp, not the head unit and not the speakers. Well, except the sub, looking to get the basic box from him but curious about running on the single amp replacement. Anyone have this set up, with our without sub replacment?

I am currently running this setup. I purchased the DSR1 and 5-channel amp from James (came with mount, wire adapter, and amp wiring kit). I have not changed any speakers or sub yet.

The sound right out of the gate was not as pleasant as I expected. It was very tweeter/dash heavy, so the sound was quite forward. But with some tuning in the DSR1 app, I managed to make the system sound very good for what it is (stock head unit and speakers/sub). A new head unit would take it another step in the right direction and new speakers/sub yet another step. But the cost keeps going.

James is the best. I had a million questions and "good idea fairy" thoughts on how to out fit my audio system (discussed OEM Audio+, ******** and patiently walked me thru the best solution for my price range. He has hooked me up with:

    Kenwood DDY 9907XR Head Unit
Helix S 62 Speakers in the doors (tweeter sails for the doors)
Helix 3s 3" Mids for the dash
Helix S 6X Coaxials for the rear
ARC 12" Sub in one of his custom enclosures
Helix Mark V 8 Channel DSP AMP
Helix M One for the sub

Made me a great deal made sure I had all the interfaces needed (XM, integration into the car audio controls). Use him!

For those that have components up front. Where did you install the tweeters? In the sail panel or dash corners? Just curious how you adapted either to fit in those places?

There are sail panel pieces available from Toyota, James has them too, that are for factory tweets. Easy to plug an aftermarket in there.

Just curious Eric, does your truck have the JBL system? If it does are you just replacing the JBL sub box from factory to this one. Just was checking to see what you were adding for your system. Thanks

I am putting mine in the door with sails provided by James. Replacing the tweeters in the dash (left and right) with 3” mids. James has a pretty nice Hertz tweeter set for the dash speakers.

2021 Tundra Crewmax Platinum with JBL Premium sound system...The factory sub is a joke, so I had an old Rockford Fosgate 200IX DSM amp from a previous vehicle. Was trying to decide on what new sub to put in, emailed James (Tech12volts), and went with a JL 12TW1-4 sub and a box built by James. Ended up running an Audio Control Pro L2Ci from the factory amp, from the L2Ci to the amp, remote bass knob, etc. Truck absolutely thumps now. Box fit perfectly. James did an outstanding job! Thanks again James!
