Dobinsons IMS Struts and Shocks for 2007+ Tundra's (IFP Monotubes)

I had a shop assemble them. They had a hard time getting the spring compressor forks off the coils too. This was one of the wall mounted compressors

 

If that’s the case then you’ll only have 2” uptravel and 2” downtravel if it sits dead in the middle. 4” total stroke. That’s no good.

 

Yeah I've heard it can be an issue with these, and Ironman springs too. Hopefully I can actually assemble these myself lol. I really like buying tools and doing the work myself if I can.

Plus the wife never gives me shit about buying tools since they end up being an investment of sorts.

 

Best of luck. It looked sketchy even with the wall mounted compressor. The tech stopped a few times and asked if I was sure these springs were supposed to be on these shocks. Lol.

 

It doesn't make sense to me either. I've only ever dealt with King and Fox on my other trucks and the coils never looked like this. I'm being optimistic that there is a good explanation as I really want these to work

As to the coil setup earlier. That sure does not seem right.
If it is I’d say that ride will be pretty stiff.

The springs are very very close to one another, yes. Here are some pics. The ride is firmer, snd feels more stable.

the lift numbers, as others have said are so off... like incredibly off. I am at 4.5inches of front lift right now, and that’s at the bottom setting on the right and normal on the left.

I also have an add front bumper, light bar, and skid plate. I can only imagine the lift if your front was stock.

 

@TundraLaw how do you CV's looks? I'm definitely curious since I have the same springs on order.

 

Those aren’t going to cut it for a 650lb+ spring. The wall mounted ones have a hard enough time with coils like these.

 

Get a refund.

 

We'll see. If they don't work, it's an easy return.

Yea the 3” 780 coils. Gave 4.5inches of lift.

Wonder if it’s possible they gave you the wrong coils as well. IIRC they’ve done that in the past.

 

Possible for sure. My invoice says 780s, but they got the color wrong, so who knows. My guess is they settle 1/2 inch, and it gives 4 inches of lift.

 

Interesting. I'll guess we'll see what happens. I don't mind some extra lift, I only put on 5k or so miles a year.

But yeah that is some false advertising lol. Do you still have any rake? It looks like the regular load rear springa provided some decent lift too.

 

Yea the leaf springs were as advertised in a way. They gave 2.5”, instead of 2.25 but that’s fine.

I think Dobinson’s just used one tundra they found in Australia for testing and hoped for the best.

 

Haha that seems quite possible. And yeah 2.5" is perfect, especially since I'm hoping to add 1 extra in on top with that shackle.

Measure from the center of your front wheel cap straight up to the bottom of the front fender with it sitting on flat ground. Then jack it up where the front end is off the ground and measure again. I’m interested to see what total extended/down travel you have. My assumption is it’s not much. I had this problem with my OME and my coils banged at full extension over relatively small bumps in the road. Annoying as hell.

 

will do. I went over a little speed bump and it felt like my truck was bottoming out, but I believe it’s likely just the stiff coils until they settle in.

CVs look upset

 

Put some zip ties around your coils then hit some hard bumps. If the zip ties break then you'll know if it's coil bind.

All I’m saying is that if those springs were supposed to yield 3” of lift on stock truck, but you’re getting 4.5” of lift, doesn’t look like you’re getting down to 3”. The springs don’t look like they have enough space to settle.

 

But those struts do look good, and that’s great news about the leaf pack.

 

My uncle is Australian, and he complains a lot. All good. We just expect precision.

Yea 3” won’t happen in a million years. I’m guessing I’ll go down 1/2 inch.

The leaf springs are good. They’re stiff, but ride nice. Don’t change at all with weight.

I wonder if they even sent me the right springs... on the invoice it says they checked off the 780s, but who knows.

 

Yes. Precision. For the money spent, precision is expected and appreciated. Other companies market products set at 2” or 2.5” or 3” and that’s what you get from them when you purchase the product. But yea, could be a simple issue of grabbing the wrong springs. Hopefully you get it sorted out. Mike seems like a good dude to deal with. I bet everything works out.
