Nice travel trailers! I had one for a while but sold it. Although you have plenty of towing capacity, it's the pin weight that will get you. If you look at travel trailers, compare the cargo capacity of your truck to the pin weight created by your TT. Mine was maxed out with no cargo in the truck. Unfortunately, this made the truck/TT hard to manage on the highway, even with a sway bar. Like I said, check the numbers and not listen to the salesman. Also, there are RV forums out there where you can get excellent information on the right way to match an RV to your truck. Wish I had gone there, first. Good luck!

You know what I got. Not recommended for your rig unless you plan on going back diesel again.

Your an outdoorsman, maybe even on the hard core side. I wouldn't get anything over 24' to get back where you want.

Got 2 tents. REI 8 person tent with attachable garage:

And my 2 person Big Agnes for backpacking trips:

    IMG_2609.jpg

Wife wants a pop up, but I think I'd rather rent one when needed vs own one.

    * Edit - 2 person tent is not a Marmot. Confused it with one of my sleep bags.

We picked up a 2016 Lance 1685 last spring. Perfect size for my wife and I at 20' long and around 3500 lbs dry. We traveled about 5k miles last summer hitting up as many different state parks as we could.

Beautiful. Are you anywhere close to Mooresville Patriot or Charlotte? My brother is looking to get a place at Lake Norman on the lake. I'm tempted to follow him. Getting tired of California and all of the ridiculous costs and laws of living here.

2004 Jayco 29BHS. 5,500# empty. Weight on the tongue is a problem.

We did over 5,000 miles last summer from MI to the Rockies. The truck pulled great but needed a new trailer hitch when we returned home. Toyota claimed that damage induced by towing was not covered.

I added air bags so that the WD hitch did not take all the load (rear suspension is too soft for 900# of tongue weight.

Question. With a 1600 # payload why would the 900# tongue weight give you problems? We have a 26dbh Gray Wolf and the max trailer weight is 7700#s with 10% tongue weight would be 800#s with propane and battery. Tows very good. Should I be looking into the airbag option? We do have the WDH as well.
    Thanks.[/QUOTE]

Check the max cargo capacity weight of your truck (sticker in door well). Add that 800 lbs to weight of people in truck, fuel gas tank, and anything else you put in the truck. Subtract that # from the max cargo capacity. If you're in the negative, you're in trouble. Towing capacity is rarely the problem. It's weight of cargo that's gets most of us. I learned the hard way trying to pull a 33' travel trailer. Good luck!

I'm in Rock Hill, about 10 minutes south of Charlotte in South Carolina. The Lake Norman area is pretty nice but a lot cheaper to live in SC. Taxes are more and even gas is $.30 more a gallon as soon as you cross the state line.
