New tundra, bed and cab lines not aligned

Anybody else notice that the cab and bed lines don't line up. I've had the truck for 3 months now and only just noticed that the body line on the bed appears to be a half inch higher than the cab on the driver side. Passenger side seems perfect. I had never notice this in two years of ownership on my 2016 but it was a double cab.

Yeah, I saw a few threads about crooked beds but mine doesn't appear tweaked like those did, its almost like the entire bed on the passenger side is half an inch higher. Thinking it might be the parking lot at work being unlevel I checked at home and it seems like no matter where I am parked, that entire side is half an inch higher. Everything else on the truck seems straight. I just wanted to check if anybody else with a 2020 or 2021 has noticed this?

That is a bit odd.

 

DC > CM.....have you checked all the bolts are tight on the driver side?

 

Unfortunately OP something looks really off... All the gaps look excessive and uneven.

 

Maybe the plastic alignment pin got crushed rather than seated properly. It’s right by the front bed bolt. Between the bed and frame. You’d have to stick your head underneath inside the fuel door area to see it.

 

Parked on flat ground?

The frame will flex some and can cause this, even the front bumper can appear to be uneven due to that.

 

Don’t run your finger behind the rear bumper and body...you will be in for a real treat when you see the difference in spacing there.

 

Did you buy it new 3 months ago? If so, maybe take it back to the dealer.

If not, maybe loosen the bed bolts and also the rubber mounts that the bed rests upon, give it a good shake, then tighten up everything again. (I had to remove the rubber mounts when installing the Toyota TSB "bed bounce" parts, look that up if you need instructions)

 

Mine had this issue. Take it to the dealer and have them straighten it out. Easy fix.

Have been checking out photos of 2021 tundra's online just to see how common this is, maybe 1 out of 10 seemed to have the body lines misaligned and it's always on the driver side.

 

I would agree with others to take it back to the dealer and have them align it. It shouldn't be like that.

 

Is it just shadowing or do you have a black gasket/weather stripping between the cab and bed?

My 2019 doesn't have that.

 

Bring it in to the dealer. I can't wait to hear what they say because you will be able to look at all the other trucks on the lot.

 

I just checked my 2020 crewmax and I didn't have that problem.

 

OP, can you take picture from the back like mine so we can see how bad it is?

 

Even yours, not unlike everyone else here, exhibits some flex. OPs bed might be mounted a little off, but its also possible it is from flex.

My 2020 body line is also off by 1/4 or maybe 3/8. And measuring up through the wheel center to the wheel opening shows a quarter inch higher on the drivers side versus the passenger side. Will have to crawl under there for a look see later...

Years ago I had a 69 Impala convertible that had side molding that ran full body length. Well the drivers side fender molding was 3/16th off from the drivers door. I figured ha a Friday built car. So imagine my surprise years later, coming across this photo in the reference book Chevrolet by the numbers by Alan L Colvin. ha!
The Impala molding was attached by plastic tabs that fit perfectly into stamped holes along the body line and thats the way it was...

 

I inspected my bed mounting points and none on the drivers side are higher than the pass side. So then figured the bed side was miss stamped...Nope.
My photos show both sides of the bed belt line to be exactly the same
The first photo shows how much the belt line is off just a tick over 1/4. Then where I measured. Both sides of the bed are identical. Oh and the bed is level side to side. The rest of the belt lines on the drivers side also match exactly the passenger side. In their relationship to the handles and other landmarks.

Ok the mounts have got to be wrong I sez to myself....Nope! I cant see any part #'s on the fr cab mounts but they both measure exactly the same distance from the body to the top of the cab and on the underside as well. The rear cab mounts have # 805520 and # 805530 on their top and bottom pieces. But I dont see those part #'s in the Toyota parts system. Which sorta doesn't surprise me. I also measured the steel mounts attached to the frame to identical places on both sides of the cab and they are in agreement as well...

At that point I gave up. I just cant figure it. But I'm still convinced its a production line issue.
Anyway stopping in at Toyota next Thursday and say I've got a weird issue I'd like them to explore.

 

I just posted about this, and have the exact same issue, same side, I noticed first the view from the back window of my truck not having parallel lines between the glass and the bed, and after looking at the truck closer, realized that the cab and bed are not aligned in the same way. My truck is a 21, bought only 2 weeks ago, its going to the dealer tomorrow morning for them to have a look, I can keep you posted what they say.

 

Has anyone noticed the small crease below the body line on the rear doors of the CM's? I took mine back to the dealership when I noticed it on my 21 and it turns out that all of the ones on the lot had the same crease

 

Yup.

Anyone who looks for issues with gaps, misaligned body panes, uneven joints, will easily find them if they look for them.

You'll go mad trying to fix them all. No one will ever notice them, besides the owner/finder if they obsess over them. If they aren't blaringly obvious or affect performance or function, I've learned to accept them.

It's a truck.

 

Please do...I thought I could get to my dealer by TH this week but it will have to wait until next Monday.
But, fingers crossed thats it easily solved.

 

Nope sorry but All the gaps in mine look great except "the one". And others it seems have the exact same problem with "the one".
Somethings going on and I'd like to try and find out what it is?

 

Same for me. All is good and lined up other than this one.

though I’m a little nervous that lifting the cab in the back drivers side corner (which I am guessing is needed, maybe the bushing is compacted down too far not sure) but fixing it could mean everything else that is aligned nicely to fit will be changed.... same thing if they have a way to drop the drivers side cab end of the bed the 1/4 inch.

so I will be interested to see what they say.
