2017 pro grille on 2018 SR5...possible???

I’ve searched high and low and I think it’s possible just want to reach out to the pro’s (YOU).

I have a 2018 white SR5. I am wanting to de-chrome a little and 100% want LED headlights. I have headlights figured out as I will go with 2019 trd pro headlights and ihacker harness.

I figured while I’m in there I might as well get color matched bulge and color matched grille surround. Buttttt I’m not paying $300+ for a little cover on grill for TSS sensor. I found that the 2017 trd grille will fit and in my opinion looks better than the newer one and is cheaper. So I’ve decided to go with this grille and try a radiator type mount (probably AJT) for TSS sensor. I hope this works for me as it seems 50/50 for other members.

I actually like my honeycomb SR5 grill but I want a white/ color matched grill bezel. That’s the main objective.

long story short. If the pro grill and mounting TSS sensor starts going crazy has anyone just put 2018 SR5 grill inside of a older pro bezel/ surround? I believe they are all the same I just don’t know if all inserts are compatible with all 3rd gen bezel/ surround. Does everything line up on backside of grille to mount properly? Because I’m sure I can sale the trd pro insert to somebody with a 3rd gen.

Not much on that thread lol. I guess simply put. Does any 3rd gen grille fit into any 3rd gen surround? is what I’m looking for. Never messed with these front ends so like anything was looking for some input because this is expensive stuff for me

I'm not savvy to the TSS sensor stuff, but I put a 2016 TRD Pro insert in my 2014 SR5.
2014 and up inserts will fit in any 2014 and up surround..

Just be careful with the clips when removing them.
They are very fragile.
Best when you have 2 people doing it.
One to release the clip, with a small jeweler's screwdriver, and one to pull them apart..

Okay thank you for the advice. I think the TSS deal is throwing me for a loop. I don’t really care if it works or not but it can be annoying if not working properly. Every once in a while it beeps now and tells me to brake.

I don’t have “factory” rake anymore and truck is level so I’ve read that can have an affect on it. I just didn’t wanna be stuck with a older style trd grille but I like the honeycomb grille I have now and just wanted to be able to put it in the color matched surround as a back up plan. If I could just buy the surround I would.

these are the reasons I joined this forum. to learn and also ask for help when needed. Also to help others that may need help doing something I have done.

 

Went from chrome to color match. But man it is expensive to do. I’ve found there are a few minor things that don’t 100% fit. IE, the sensor didn’t allow me to screw in (imo) 2 unnecessary screws (they belonged to the outer chrome piece surrounding the toyota logo), but all the main components to buckle it down are there.

Truck looks so much better color matched. Yes I read that somewhere that there is 2 different sensors (as far as mounting goes). Truck looks good with the little bit of chrome on the bumper still too . Thanks
