What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Got the rear diff fluid changed after work. Looked pretty grubby. Glad I decided to do it.

 

After sitting in the garage for 2 weeks took it up to look for some deer antlers and now my Saturday is going to be spent getting the 100lbs of mud off the old girl.

ordered parts and set up plans to get a prerunner tire gate off a chevy to modify to my tundra

 

Made a little skid plate for my bumper today to just make things look a little neater. I think it came out pretty good but damn I wish California didnt make us have the front license plate as well. It looks so much worse. Also doesnt help that I got it on there a little crooked, haha.

Slapped in some shiny. The old alt did have some rear bearing noise, and the clutch did have a slight wobble. The clutch was definitely a pain without a holder, but I improvised and got the nuts loose, but the WP shaft thingy was on there pretty good so it took some back and forth action with the painters tool, holding the pryed edge open with another flat blade, then working on the opposite side.
Volt needle still dances, idle in D is still a lil stumbly. But at least I have some spares for some Mad Mo; Welcome to the thunder canyon, futuristic type stuff.....
I’ll rebuild the alternator down the road.

 

Did you do a Denso reman?

 

I did. All from the steeler. I’ve actually been dealing with “the guy” who does the Internet sales and he’s been super helpful! One of my vac hoses was on back order and he had like crib notes under his keyboard, and said it might be in but he’d have to go check a bunch of boxes. I’m like sure dude take your time!(it’s a long drive to this dealer that participates in the online program)
It wasn’t, but it was nice that he remember and wrote it down and took the time, or acted like he went and looked for it.

 

Guys, I got the rebuilt engine in and mated to the bell housing. But the crankshaft won't turn. I have to turn it to bolt the torque converter to the drive plate. It turned fine when I had it on the stand to make sure everything was in time but now it's locked. What the heck could be making it bind? I'm so close to having this done.

Pulled the starter in case that was stuck and it wasn't. Plugs are out. Tried in neutral and park.

 

Squirt some Deep Creep in the Spark Plug Holes? Maybe the pistons rings are bound up from sitting? I don’t remember you pulling them so maybe the Mojo is seized.

 

Will do, they weren't pulled but I did put assembly lube on them.

Replaced the little bumper bolt cover things. Had one go MIA

struck out on google trying to figure out what size sway bar bushings I have. Best I can tell it’s a 27 mm bar

 

On the stand did you rotate it more than 4 times around? Are you turning the crank bolt? Clockwise or counter clockwise? Seems strange its not going around.

 

Looks like they're getting more dealers signed up. There's actually one close enough to me to be bothered with.
Maybe I'll get that airbag recall done & pickup some spark plugs while I'm there.

I have 9 dealerships within 35 miles of me, none of them participate in the online program. The closest one to me is about a 100 miles away so not worth the drive for picking up parts in person. Luckily I haven't needed much directly from Toyota.

 

None of the valley dealerships participate? That sucks!

 

I turned it twice or thrice on the stand and it stayed in time, I am trying to turn the bolt clockwise. I will try again later today but I am concerned, it feels more like a mechanical siezure than needing a little oil. Might tap the flex plate in the right direction too with a mallet or pop a timing cover (but it's not at TDC so idk how I'd line up anything).

 

Did you go stock Tundra or Sequoia 150 amp?

Same here. Closest dealer is 85 miles round trip and their prices are still higher than the other online dealers I order from. I'm hoping more dealers will get added to that program as time goes on.

 

I have 2 Toyota dealers within 10 miles from me....I just check the nearest online participating dealer , get their price from online and usually one of the non-participating dealers will match it over the phone. Also, FYI, if you are a Costco member, in addition to their auto buying service, has a discount parts/service program where you get 15% off any part/service....if you ever need it. Both my local Toyota dealers participate.
