Does anybody have a cheaper alternative to replacing the Air Box to Throttle Body pipe other the purchasing K&N 57-9036 $199.99?
Has anybody successfully removed their resonator? I’ve tried searching for it but cannot find much info.

Okay so I’m thinking this should work. This total is $150. So $50 cheaper then the K&N. I already have a K&N filter if I didn’t I’d go the K&N route.

On 4th gen 4runners we just used silicone coupler, alum pipe, and a vacuum nipple kit to drill and add the lines. $50

For 5.7s I've seen the AFE kits pop up used for $100 occasionally.

3 3/4” aluminum pipe 45* bend straight coupler and reducer coupler at the throttle. Brass fitting for crank case and vacuum lines, finished was black paint. $80~

Don’t buy that K&N crap. I have it, not even close to fitting correctly. Had to modify, and still not great.8C28E12C-AC4B-494C-B6C5-F53817A09D9D.jpg

Thought about that but doesn’t work without the TRD lid from what I know, so buying whole kit is cheaper for me.

If not too much trouble, some more info on parts used would be helpful.

Haven’t seen any AFE kits lately. Most people only want local pickup also.

I like this idea but I just worry about the aluminum tube being such a great heat conductor.

Isn’t the stock and TRD exactly the same besides Airflow accelerator, Filter, and tube? I’m going to see if Toyota does some Military Discount on parts tomorrow :fingerscrossed:
worst case I return all the parts. I’ll probably bring my drill and check in the parking lot.

Could you give me some more info on what you did. Size of pipe and length. Reducer size. Figured I could just heat wrap the pipe instead. Been looking at Autozone and other places and it’s slim pickings. Thanks.

It’s a 3 3/4” id or 4” od 45* aluminum with 7” leg. 4” id by 3” length 4” to 3.25” reducer coupler from Amazon. Cut the pipe to fit. Drill and tap the hole for the brass fittings. You can find the fitting at Home Depot or your local auto supply store.

Okay so I went with the TRD option like I said above. It worked perfectly. If I purchased the the aluminum pipe and brass fitting and all that jazz it was totaling $120ish.

This is how I turned my stock airbox into a TRD Cold Air Intake for 50% off.

How is the intake tube different than stock, other than color (from the air box to the intake)?

It doesn’t have that resonator in there anymore. Probably slightly better performance. And it says TRD so easy 20+ HP. :benchpress:

Whats the purpose of the resonator? Reduce sound or does it do something to the airflow?

It reduces sound by inducing a lower resonance frequency and will slow flow into the intake tube.

As an FYI. The TRD intake parts did not work on my 20' Tundra. It appears they only work on prior to 19' due to the
airbox change. The TRD tube is too large to fit on the outlet of the factory airbox.

You’re not able to just clamp the coupler down? My coupler was slightly bigger but nothing insane.

The throttle body fit well, but at the air box it was pretty loose. I was working in the dark, so I'll take another peak at it
tomorrow in the daylight and post measurements if there was indeed a difference. If not I'll post up with a confirmation
    that i'm a dummy :D

Actually that’s what mine looked like and I just clamped it down. Didn’t bunch up and nice tight seal for me.

Check the build link in my signature.
I ordered these parts, and attempted to install this weekend. The combined LENGTH of the parts are about 3/4" longer than the stock air intake tube on my 2021, so there is no way to get the air box lid back in place.
I also missed the fact I would need to extend the larger vacuum line to make it connect to the inlet tube, so I didn't have parts for that. But the bigger issue was everything being too long.

SO... Looks like I'll be offering up the parts in the market place and just leave things alone for now.

Maybe a dumb question, but is the resonator in the tube in between the air box and throttle body? I looked in my 2021 and there aren't any internals, straight through and open.

Dealer installed the TRD intake on my 21 without issue. I have taken the tube off the a couple times and it fits snug. Weird.

Where did you order from? You’re not able to just return the parts?

On my 2015 I had this hideous contraption.

Yes I have that too, but there's nothing inside the tube going to the throttle body. What am I missing or not understanding?
