Update: took the truck and cap back on Tuesday. Got the same “it’s gonna leak no matter what” BS. I agreed that it would leak when they didn’t install it properly. They did move the cap back some and it appeared to be closing better. The manager did tell me that if they moved it back any further it might start leaking at the front because “Toyota beds are very thin at the front.”

Got it home and got a chance to climb in the bed again. When I closed the rear window, the gap is much smaller, but still there (see photo). When it rained again, there was still water coming in the back. Frustrating. So, looks like I need to take it back again. The “thin bed” explanation seems like a crock. Am I right?

My leaks were from the tailgate. By design there is a large gap at the top. I Macgyver'd some weather seals and they work pretty good. When I get to my computer I'll post some pictures

I have an ARE, but this should be typical. If you have fitment issues, your dealer should fix them. The first thing I noticed was that the small rubber seal at the bottom corners would fold in when I closed the window, and they weren't secured at the edges. I used some sealant/adhesive to secure the outside edges and made sure to reposition the inboard side when I close the window. Still had some leaking issues. I got in the back with the tailgate closed and found the tailgate is not sealed when closed. At the top corners there's a 3/4 inch gap, by design and a smaller gap around the rest of it. I talked to a few friends with other pick ups and found this is common. My best guess is that it's designed to drain, not for putting a cap on to make it watertight. I put some weather strip on and hit it with a hose, still a few leaks so I added some sheet rubber to the top corners of the tailgate. For the most part it works. Still some minor seepage with a hard rain, but nothing that is worrisome. The pictures are old and of the prototype. I eliminated the duct tape and secured the rubber with adhesive, plus got rid of the over application of the excessive adhesive. And you can't see it when the tailgate is closed, so ugly but functional is acceptable.
