Bypass tundra auto shut off

Hey, I have a 2021 tundra crew max platinum.
Has anyone figured out how to bypass the auto shut off for the remote start? I hate that it shuts off when I open the door.

That is one of my only complaints about my 2020. Can't for the life of me understand why Toyota would design it that way.

 

Could install an aftermarket remote start, they do not shut off when the door is opened.

 

My '15 tundra wagon has the same issue.

Well at least we can warm or cool our machines down for 10 mins or so before we step into them, that's 99% of the remote start's purpose for me.

Someone will crack the code, we know the trigger point. Luck all.

 

It must be some kind of legislated requirement as GM does the same.

 

Maybe it’s just me but it’s pretty easy to put your foot on the brake and push the start button. Just sayin.

 

It is easy... but it's also making the starter work twice as often everytime.

 

When it's -40 I'd much rather not have to run outside and jump in the truck to start it - no kids I can make do it . Lucky for me my aftermarket system in my 2016 (even Toyota wouldn't sell me the Toyota one then it was so bad lol) doesn't shut off unless I hit the brakes without the key in it.

As for why it shuts off, it's a CYA thing from Toyota. They don't want the 1 in a million chance someone could steal a vehicle because of their remote start. If the next gen Tundra still does this I'll look into aftermarket systems so that it stays on, don't like stressing the battery on 2 cold starts that close together.

 

In some states it is illegal to leave your vehicle running unattended. This might have something to do with it. It seems to me that Toyota is very cautious when it comes to legalities.

 

I seriously doubt the starter or anything in the electrical system will ever be damaged by having to start the truck twice. Autos with the auto start/stop feature have to start many, many more times and their electrical systems aren’t melting down as a result. Look, I wish it would stay running too, but it’s not a big enough issue to me to hack up the electrical system with an aftermarket setup. I choose to just live with it.

 

It's just programming, FCA remote start doesn't shut down when door is open, you just have to be inside the vehicle with the fob and press the start button again before you can shift into D.

 

According to Popular Mechanics, vehicles auto start\stop get beefed up starters, though.

 

You’re right but I just don’t see how starting a vehicle twice instead of once could hurt anything and that’s assuming you use remote start every time you start your truck. Besides I’ll take a regular Toyota starter over a “beefed up” Ford or GM starter. As I said earlier, maybe it’s just me but when I use remote start I just start it again when I get in it. I refuse to worry about it. I have more pressing issues to worry about.

 

Luckily, I don't have remote start so the only thing I have to worry about is finding my warm mitts.

 

I hear you. I lived I Upstate NY for 5 years driving a 2011 Tacoma. I remember many sub-zero mornings having to go to work. I would crank the truck up and by the time I finished removing snow from it it would be warmed up enough that it seemed downright cozy when I got in.

 

My issue with having to use the starter twice isn't the starter, I'm just as confident in it as many are. It's the battery and charging system in the Tundra itself that would make me nervous. My OEM battery finally got to the point where I was fed up with it and replaced it with an Interstate one so we'll see how it does this winter, but 3 light years is not my expectation for a battery. And the Tundra charging system takes like 30-45 minutes to recharge from a cold start.

 

The whole point of remote staring is to get the truck warmed or cooled down. I just watch it to stay started. I traded my challenger srt in for this truck. It had remote start and stayed on. When I got in the car with the keys I had to pass the start button in order to shift into drive. It's not asking for much.
On a lighter note. Tomorrow I will post some pics of my truck. It's rumming a 3" ready lift and 295/70/20 toyo at2 on some black rhino wheels. I love it.

 

That is the standard in Texas, too damx hot most of the year, only batt i've had last more than 3, is the one in wife's bmw 330ci, mostly I think because it is in the trunk, away from the underhood Heat.

You and I need magnetic trickle charge mats!

I have the Toyota remote start in my '16 and wish it had the ability to stay started when I unlock the door BUT more so, I wish there was a way to have the heated seat warm up with the truck instead of having to actually sit on it. I know, I know, life is so hard. But seriously, anyone have a work around for this?

 

place a 5lbs bag on the seat, enough to trigger the seat belt chime... maybe that would be enough to have it warm up for you....

As per the door issue, maybe look for the wiring that leads to the power cut off from the door and redirected to the brake pedal?? My old remote starter would start my car and keep it on for 10 minutes either I press the brake and it kills it or the time runs out and it kills it... The only way I could keep it on is to insert the key and turn it to the on, or Acc position and you can press the brake and it will not kill the engine within the time... so maybe have some automotive electrician look into it and rerouted to your brake pedal. or you can tinker with it to figure this out...

 

I never had to hack up anything with my system. No matter what fancy or new tech there is with start and stop technology.... something running twice as much, also dies twice as fast.... sorry... but you can't argue with reality and science. If you're only planning on keeping your truck a few years before trading in on the next newest, best New thing then I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.

I have not looked at the system in awhile but to get around the shut down you would probably need two relays one to bypass the door switch the other to trick pressing the brake pedal.

 

You put your truck in neutral to push it instead of cranking it up because you’re worried about burning up the starter? Seriously? Wow!!!! Just wow!!!! Congratulations!

 

My 2019 Suburban at work keeps on running when I open the doors.

 

My 2020 seats will warm up with the the auto start without being in them.

 

Unfortunately, it's not. I have 2 x 2020 Subaru's and they do not shutoff when you unlock the doors, only if you step on the brake before pushing the start stop button 3x.



I assume we still have no solution for this other than aftermarket. Grr. Very frustrating. In my Subaru's I can also control all of the climate control settings via the app. I wish we could do this on a 2021 Tundra. Both Subaru and Toyota use Can bus so I know it's possible technically.

 

From what I have been told is that all push button start vehicles will turn off if you open the door, even if you install an after market system. The only ones that will stay running are the keyed ones.

 

Unfortunately that's not true. I have two 2020 Subaru's and they do not shutoff when opening the door or unlocking the doors.
