Hesitating and Missing but computer says not misfiring

So this started a few weeks ago on my 2003 V6 250K.
When I put my foot down, even slightly in normal driving, like pulling away from lights it's missing like crazy. If I just touch the pedal and be really gentle it's OK.
My friend put his computer on it and it's not showing any issues at all. It feels like a coil and when it's stone cold it doesn't happen which makes me think it's a coil but he knows what he is doing on the computer and it shows nothing at all. BTW I changed the MAS just incase and that made no difference. Any ideas?

 

Did you use the correct Denso MAF?

Could be a grounding issue also. I'm not sure if that would trigger a Check engine light. (CEL)

Check battery connections too to eliminate easy stuff.

Could also be spark plugs I suppose.

Thanks for the replies, plugs were changed a while back.
I personally did the valve cover gaskets about 3 or 4 months ago using all Toyota parts as it was weeping a bit of oil.
I'll check the battery and ground in the morning. Alternator was changed about a year ago.
One other thing I did notice recently is the charging indicator in the dash is sitting 3/4-7/8 way up to the top line. I don't remember it ever sitting that high before.
BTW I have owned this since 2004 and it was Toyota serviced up until about 2 years ago (I had free tires for life deal when I bought the truck - boy did they get pissed every time it needed tires he he)
Maybe Ill just throw a set of coils and wires on it to see if that helps, it's just weird the computer didn't show anything. Maybe he didn't know what he was doing!!!
I am a British bike enthusiast and I know from decades of experience when failing coils or magnetos are cold they can function well but as they heat up they start messing up and that's what this feels like. After about 2 miles this issue starts.

 

There a 3 pack of Drivestar coils on Amazon for $39 are they worth a try or just pure garbage?

 

I bought Denso coils from Amazon back in July. I changed my OEM coils to these densos back then around 316K miles.

About the coil wires, I got frustrated during my searching. I couldn't find who made them for toyota. I ordered genuine toy oem wires from Amazon.

In hindsight, it was great that I ordered the OEM wires because they came with the little clips, and wire separators. I didn't have to reuse anything, and it was no muss or fuss. Ease of install.

 

I had a similar issue once when I first got my truck. Turned out to be a dirty ass air filter. Phew

 

If the voltage is that high is it measure 15-16v or more? Ecu could be shutting off to save itself.

This would be a bad alternator.

 

Intake gasket possibly, my truck would idle fine at cold then miss and sound like shit once warm. Took until it got really bad before it threw a code.

 

Wondering could it be that, I had all that off when doing the valve covers a few months back but I did use new Toyota gaskets and torqued the bolts evenly. On the bikes we would drench the intake joint with WD40 to see if the revs changed and that would indicate a leak but sure you can't get near it on one side on this motor. Maybe it's something to try though. Thanks for the info.

 

I had the exact same issues that you described on my 02 except it's a V8. Turned out to be a bad ignition coil.

 

Well I found the culprit this morning thankfully. One plug has split the porcelain.
I guess the computers don't know where the spark was going and are just happy that it's sparking somewhere

 

How many miles on these plugs and what brand? I read above you said you replaced them ‘a while back’. Glad you figured out the problem. Hope you put in some nice Denso or NGK.

 

Nice!! Quick east cheap fix that’s what we like brother! And like Hand Model said go to Toyota and spend the $2 a plug for oem.

Hopefully it’s a defect and not caused by something that a bigger problem.
