Rock Sliders Question

I have been back and forth trying to figure out if I want basic tube steps or rock sliders. I leaning towards rock sliders due to the added protection. My question is ' is there any real difference in the framework of an 07-13 tundra compared to the 14-15 tundra'? I found a nice pr of sliders but they say they will only fit 07-13, and since it is Sat. I can not get ahold of anyone.

 

If you wouldn't mind I would greatly appreciate it.

 

Ok sounds good. The website doesn't specify whether they are bolt on or weld on. I'm going to try to contact them on Monday.

 

Let me ask you this... Do you have kids, car seats or anything? I'd probably get some sliders for mine, but my wife has trouble getting the kids seat in the back as it is and it's not lifted yet.

I have a little one with a car seat. The sliders I'm looking at double as steps.

 

Ha I love It. What does your wife think about climbing in and out of your truck now?

 

She has only been in it twice so far and has mentioned it is hard to get in, but I normally change out the car seat and strap the lil guy down. She seemed to be ok with the sliders, but they need to be covered (ie top plates).

 

Well just order the All Pro Off-road Sliders. And now I wait!

 

Good choice! I placed my order for their sliders last week. You can't go wrong with solid steel sliders. Not only for the protection offroad, but onroad..





..that's Demello's old 4Runner and his shop's sliders. They got t-boned and walked away with very minor slider cosmetic damage and minor damage to the door panels. Everything else, especially the frame, was fine.

 

Wow! I would not have thought about that kind of coverage...

 

If I had the money I would go with them, they look great. Are you going to paint, powdercoat, bedline, etc. them?

 

From what I read hear and there about how to finish them, I believe I am just going to go with a rattle can. Touch-ups seems to be easier if you go this route. If you use a bedliner and don't do it yourself you need to take it to a shop to be touched up, and the initial cost is high. The same goes for powder coat. As for the rattle can, all you would need to carry is sandpaper, a newspaper, and a can. Also if I'm that unhappy with the looks, it's not like I can't still get it powder coated or spray it with liner.

 

I gotcha, I agree. You need to post up pics once you get them on and painted! I can't wait to see them on your truck.

I powder coated mine and it was a waste of cash. I got stuck on a rock in Death Valley right after I put them on, and scraped the crap outta them. I expected that, but not easy to touch up when they're coated or bed linered. Fortunately, the powder coat I used had a texture to it and the Rustoleum textured matched pretty well. In short, I should have just rattle canned them.

 

Yeah that's pretty much the general opinion of most. You basically just made my decision very easy with this post, thank you.

 

Did you get your sliders yet, mine arrived today.

 

Yeah I just installed mine this week. Note: if you plan on getting undercoating sprayed on install you sliders first.

 

Thanks for the orders - post your pics! As mentioned, while durable, powdercoating isn't the easiest to touch-up on items like sliders and skid plates that you know will get scrap up. We recommend thoroughly cleaning with paint thinner, prime, then paint with a rust inhibiting paint like Rustoleum.

 

Anyone else having a few problems bolting these on a '14+?

The main thing is that the two rear-most bolts on the driver's side don't fit in place of the OEM bolts in those holes that are holding the brake lines. I'd love to use the upgraded hardware because the OEM ones in the holes are thin and would probably snap if I dropped weight on that end of the sliders while offroading.

These ones are kind of minor and easier to fix though annoying nonetheless. 2 of the 4 slots on the bottom side don't match up to any holes on the frame. The other two holes on the bottom side match up once I force them and bend the slider support plate a little, but the real problem is those existing OEM holes in the frame don't have any threading in them; this can be fixed if I just stop by my local hardware store and get a set of bolts/nuts instead of the flat bolt that comes with the kit. The first 2 bottom slots mentioned will need fresh holes drilled into the frame -- I'll just go to a shop to get that done since I don't have the tools to tap threaded holes.

I'll get around to fixing the bottom side with my suggested fixes eventually. For now I have the sliders hanging on the truck by just the side bolts, which is enough support to use them as a step. I wouldn't dare drop the truck on the sliders against a rock without the bottom supports though.

 

Hmmm, I haven't attached mine yet as waiting to get them back from powder coating. @All-Pro Off Road do you guys have any install photos of the underside connecting sliders to frame using the assembly package of nuts and bolts you send with? The sliders come with a box/bag full of misc. nuts and bolts, but no assembly instructions.

 

It's 5 sets of bolt/washer/washer/locking-washer/nut on each side that attach to the side of the frame while using 4 of the backing plates. Then 4 flat-head bolts on each side that attach to the bottom of the frame itself.

 

I would love to find some used ones. New are big $$ for the little use I will get out of them. But agree, having the protection is an important addition when compared to just step bars
