That's kinda what I was thinking.

So my curiosity got the best of me and I started searching around. OP if you think you may do more wheeling or any higher speed stuff I would consider the stage 2 kits. I looked at 4wp and SDHQ's website and the only option I can find so far to upgrade to coilovers for a 6 or 7" kit is from Icon and those things will set you back just under 1400 and another 250-300 for rears. I don't think I will ever shell out that cash to replace the shocks. So I'll just take it easy and save the craziness for the other toys.

Most off road shop swill charge around $100 per hour for an install and usually an install can be done between 6-10 hours. I've been quoted this from shops is Oregon, multiple in California and in texas. Maybe finagle the price with them. They can definitely find wiggle room on that. That's just crazy.

I have a question about the Pro Comp lifts in general. For instance, If I were to get a 6in lift and 35s (coming from stock wheels and tires). Would the trucks height increase more than the 6in from the lift if the 35in tires are 3 inch taller by themselves? Would the total lift height be about 7.5in or does the 6in lift take into account the added diameter of the tires?
Sorry for the newb question. I can start a new thread if it's warranted as well.

That's precisely how it works. The lift gets your frame up higher, clearing the way for larger tires. The larger tires get your axles up higher, and ultimately everything else above them. This of course comes at a price...CG raised, for one...also your profile into the windstream is increased creating a bit more drag on the truck as a whole. Typically, most folks will go with a 3" lift and some slight body modifications to get 35's underneath. They are accomplishing the same axle lift without inducing other factors (CG, airflow resistance, etc) A 6" lift will allow you to get 37's as well, increasing overall clearance yet again. IMHO, the 6" is functional yet also aesthetic.

Of course, everyone had a different opinion on that Hahaa

Yep. 6 inch lift = 6 inch lift / 32" tire to 35" tire = 3 inches difference = 1.5 extra inches. Total brings you to 7.5 inches of lift over stock.

If you want to run 37's on a 6in lift do you have to do trimming at all? Also I hear with 37s you should change your gears. What size and where do you get them? Do you need to run a programmer after all that?

You will more than likely have to do some trimming on 37's. As to how much will depend on your offset. 4.88 gears if you decide to go that route and you will want to get a speedometer callibrator.

Thought that the sr5 with the trd package had 4.88 or am I mistaken?

A lot of off road sites carry them
4 wheel parts has em as well as a good number of other off road vendor sites. Some people will add lockers at the same time depending on how much offroading you do and how hard you go off road. If mainly just a daily driver I wouldnt worry about lockers. Labor can be pretty pricey on the install.

    Yup stage 2 and if I would go 37. They'd be 37 12.5 on 18x9 with 0 offset....-12 at the most.

For the lockers or for the gears the labor is pricy....or both? Would I need a programmer with 37 or just a hypertech speedo calibrator?

I'm probably going with 35s to start just curious about the 37 factors if there's anything to plan ahead on. Not going to be doing very much off roading. Just a little for hunting and what not. Nothing extreme like some of the guys do on here that live in the mountains

Is regearing pricy? I'd definitely have to take it somewhere to get done. And does any automotive place do it or would you suggest an offroad mechanic?

You should try power braking...note: I said "try".

Damn thing won't let you. Even with trac control all the way off.

Do you have to regear for 35s or can the 4.3's and 5.7 engine handle it?

Wish there was a way to turn all the nannies off until you wanted to turn them back on. Not turn them off every time you restart

This appears to be 50/50. I was planning on changing my gears this summer. I did a bunch of reading that highly recommended it before any type of bolt on mods to try to regain power like exhaust, intake or bully dog programmer. I called a local shop and talked to the owner who also had a Tundra on 40's if i remember right. He said not to do it till 37's. His reasoning would be that though the 35's are tall enough, but that you would limit the top end of the truck to about 70... meaning anything faster and you would be well above 2000rpm(this rpm is my assumption not his words) and you wouldnt gain back any mileage at this point. I plan on switching to 37's when these tires need to be replaced so thats when i think i will do gears as well. I think what would put some clarity to this issue would be some real world numbers. Not ones based off of gear calculators. Lets get some rpm numbers from a stock height truck, one with 35's and one with 35's and 4.88's to compare at say 55,65,and maybe 75 just to see how those numbers compare. Another reason for the gear change is the transmission hunting. Some people that don't have the hypertech speedo calibrator notice more hunting then people that are using the calibrator. I don't seem to have that much so i am not as worried about it now.

No problems with the 4.3 here...well, other than the wife's Subi can beat me to 60 now. I say it's a fair trade
