This. My '13 F150 *could* tow a 27' camper. (I did it twice.) Used a WDH, made sure that it was under ratings, etc. (I even went so far as to have the family drive separate.) It had trailer brakes, anti-sway, towing package, the whole 9 yards....and I can ABSOLUTELY tell you that it was/is one hell of a lot easier to both tow *and* control the same amount of weight with my 2020 Tundra. More power is 1/2 of it; more weight to control/counteract the weight of what you're towing is the other 1/2.

If I recall correctly, that blue one was a 2004ish concept that previewed the 2nd Gen's arrival. At the time, it was rumored to have a high output v6 providing high mpg with power similar to a v8. Some things never change!

That's what is mostly been speculated. Why do you say no turbo on the plug in?

Premium over what? There's so much smoke about no V8 that I'm pretty sure there won't be one in the Tundra. So no apples to apples comparison. I expect the hybrid to add $2-3k over the base V6TT - I'd have to test drive it to see. Only reason I'd want one is I'm expecting a lot more power with that than the current V8.

For Toyota to keep the V8 around it would have to make financial sense for them. The V6TT can be tweaked to be used in about a dozen or so of their vehicles, the 5.7 has about 3. It's a very specialized engine, so I'd be very curious how much people would pay for it, and would that be enough to make it financially viable for Toyota.

Well if you need more power then great. That's a great reason to get it. 5.7 is done. You heard it here. Long live the Raptor clone.

Does it matter who did it first? nope. I've driven multiple generations of the 3.5 - all but the HO one, and I have no issue with the power. It doesn't get better fuel mileage the way I drive, and that's why I've zeroed in on the hybrid version. I love the V8 as much as anyone, but they're about maxed out for what they can do. Hybrid and electric is going to dominate in 10 years, may as well get on board now.

I think the Corolla hybrid is a great example. Double the fuel economy of the standard Corolla and only costs a couple thousand dollars more. If the new Tundra does something similar and the capability and reliability is there, it would be a no brainer for me once it's time to replace this truck.

If it gets just over 30 MPG highway then that's ~$200/month I can save in fuel, pretty easy to justify $5000 premium for it. If they can even get 20 miles electric range that's even better, do the errands around town without even starting the gas engine so that adds more savings with wear and tear.

I had to stop by my dealer to pick up to pickup something and the guy I spoke to last time I was there about the new tundra stated that the owner heard Toyota is waiting to see the the Chicago autoshow is still on for spring. So I'm guessing if thats true we will not see a reveal until details for that are listed.

Speaking of towing.... any of y’all remember when the 5.7 first came out in the Tundra? How Toyota had that side gig with NASA or whoever that was transporting that 200,000lb space shuttle... was it in Southern California? That was a cool video that I watched several times as kid! Those 5 lug wheels held up ok.... now I had a silver 2008 crewmax with 5.7

Those 5 lug wheels had very little weight on them. All the weight was on dollys. The tundra was simply pulling with basically no weight transfer.

I mean still neat, but not really a load test

Me too...it would just be a “game changer” or “dominating” if those little hair dryers we’re attached to a V8.

I want to think I'll be pleased with whatever engine option(s) they come up with. My family has had all sorts of Toyotas and Lexus vehicles after growing up on a farm with Fords and Chevys. 4 Tundras, 3 Land Cruisers, 1 LX450, 3 Avalons, 2 Camrys and a RAV-4. I don't recall my brother's current Lexus sedan model. I've personally owned vehicles with the 4.5 ('93 Land Cruiser), the 4.7 ('03 and '05 Land Cruisers) and now the 5.7 ('16). All have been great engines for me. I do my own maintenance and repairs so I've really gained an appreciation for Mr. T's engines.

Re: Storming Naples - Well, it's just a bit down the road from me... maybe I'll swing by, next time I'm over that way! ;) I went there a year ago, looking at the 2020/21 models. honestly, parked next to one almost identically with the same options/colors as mine... just couldn't see having a payment for literally almost an identical truck. In 10 yrs, about all that had changed, was the dash, and led headlights. Mine (a 2011) only had 100,000 miles at that point, just barely broke in. I have a sunroof, this one didn't. But, now a 2022... if they do some updates... I might be more interested in.
