How do you like the lure?
I’m about to pick up a lure 11.5 with the overdrive. Hopefully this weekend.

If you drive with tailgate down. I would imagine your going to get road rash all over the tailgate. I would at least put some sort of protection on it.

Rent a small Uhaul utility trailer without the ramp, $14, strap some 2x4s across it, bam, kayak transport solved. Zero alterations, and the fun of using a trailer.

It's a good all around fishing kayak. Not the fastest but it's really stable and handles pretty fair on technical river sections. I really like the 'wheel in the keel' and Feel Free's customer service is outstanding. The adjustable seat height is super nice too.

Look into adarac racks. they are reasonably priced and compatible with most bed covers.

Im thinking of pulling the trigger on the Adarac aluminum series contoured truck rack to carry my wilderness system tsunami 145. The truck rack vertical height is 25" with rail deck. I figure that should be enough height to keep the kayak from touch the roof. Only reason Im going this route is because Im moving a long distance with a trailer attached and cant use the tow hitch extender I own. Any thoughts?

Are you able to use your bed for the kayak? I have a jackson coosa hd with a diamondback and this is my setup with a yakima longarm. It's awesome. one of the yakima locking straps to hold it to the longarm and i just take the whole longarm out while i'm fishing and toss it in the bed with the diamondback. Its locked up and secure so I dont have to worry about people messing with my shit when i'm out on the water

If you zoom in on this picture, I also added some eyelets so i can ratchet strap the seat down with my poles and paddle under it and same with my milk crate for all of my lures. Everything is secure and in the kayak. Fair warning its a monster when you have everything loaded into it. But i've made several trips this past year and everything stays secure during the drive (went an hour to erie with two kayaks this way and it held up great). I plan to get the boonedox groovy landing gear here shortly to add to the kayak to make it easier to move around outside the water.

Same activities as you, except I look at it from is it a day trip or vacation trip. I toss either my Canoe (Novacraft 16' TuffStuff) or Kayak (Feel Free 11.5') in the bed for day trips. I use a hitch extender for the 16' Canoe. Yeah it sticks out, but not really an issue for a day trip even on the highway. When taking either one on a longer or extended trip, then the rack goes on and a little more effort to load. No perfect solution for all the different toys to play with ;)

We have a couple (well 4) sit on top FeelFree Kayaks. You're the first other person I have seen even mention them, let alone have one.

I have removable Thule Rack with a Thule canoe holder. Canoe goes up top and I can cram a couple small kayaks hanging out the back. Luckily, we store the Kayaks at my inlaws trailer, where we camp close by. So I make a couple runs back and forth and keep them at our site for the week or two we camp.

After camping, the rack comes off until next time.

I am hauling a cargo trailer with me me so the longarm I own cannot be used. Nice set up by the way. I measured the height difference from the bow to the cockpit and the difference is so small that it wont hang low enough over the truck rail to touch the roof. So I am going with the Adarac Aluminum series contoured truck rack. Its all direct bolt on so I can always remove when not in use.

Pic please! I’d like to see this. I have a half height bed rail. It’s about 8 inches below the top of the cab. I’d like to see how much clearance there is... if any.

    many thanks

I will just say, after watching my neighbor load his Hobie Outback on/off his 4Runner I said Hell no. he is now looking at a used jetski trailer to haul. I have a 12' Ocean kayak that I transport in the bed of my Tundra with no bed extender. Don't know if this is doable on the Crewmax. I will be eventually upgrading to a 14' Pro Angler at some point and will get a BooneDox T-bone extender for that set up

Yes and Jackson makes scupper hole plugs for them. Thanks man. I've had it for about 4 years now and really love it. Having a kayak is kinda like having a tundra, you can do so many things to them to make them your own.:spending:lol

I love mine, I leave the bed rails on at all times and if I need racks they can be bolted on in less than 5min, even faster with an impact gun.

Do you have some wheels you use to transport? I got me a used one from a buddy of mine and love it. Nothing like fighting a big drum on it, while it's pulling you around. Do you fish a lot in yours?

I'm going to be purchasing the boonedox groovy landing gear here shortly to add some wheels to it. Seems really nice and can actually handle the weight of this thing all loaded up. Yes that's all I do in it is fish in it. I use it on lakes and have taken it down a couple rivers/creeks. super stable and easy to stand up on and fish. I'd suggest getting a stand assist strap for it. Makes it easier to pull yourself up from the seat.

Finally got the Adarac Aluminum bed rack installed. Fairly easy to install. All bolt on and no drilling. Will be more than enough to haul my cargo trailer and my kayak at the same time.

It’s their aluminum series. You can choose contoured verticals like the ones I have or the straight ones. The matte black finish was additional. Total from CarID website after military discount was 492. If I purchased straight from Adarac it was about 560. Shippers address was actually direct from Adarac. I guess CarID is where to go for good prices.

A wide sturdy rack makes this doable for an average sized guy.

I would absolutely use a trailer for boats but I often tow a travel trailer so the roof is the only good option.

I like the look of the contoured rack but I've only ever seen them with soft bed covers... I'm guessing the contour gets in the way if you had a solid foldback bed cover, right?
