Now that my tundra has 3,000 miles on it gas mileage is better than ever. 19.5 on snow covered roads not exceeding 50mph. And today cause of impending snow storm I took tundra to work instead of leaf plus and got 18.2 driving 48 miles 67mph and below. I have Bridgestone duelers on it. Tundra SR5 SX. Would love to see the gas mileage of the 5.7 if it were put in a aluminum f150 with the 10 speed auto and 3:55 gears. I think my mileage is fantastic as my registration says it weighs 5360. Plus tundra has 4:30 gears and 6 speed transmission.

Keep in mind that it is transmission gearing coupled with the rear end gearing that affects MPGs. I believe when you combine the 2 then Tundras are comparable to other brands. Tundras do get lower MPGs versus the big 3 but I don't think it is as much as their owners would like to believe. If we did not have worse mileage they would not have anything to knock Tundras for.

Speed is the biggest killer of MPG's. If I drive my truck 60 mph and below, I can touch 20mpg, but going 70-75 like you normally do on the hwy and you quickly drop to 15.

When driven reasonably, the Tundra gets decent mileage for its size and power. When not using the winter blend gas I easily get 18.2 to 19 on hilly highways. With winter blend 16 is the best I can do and winter drastically affects every car I have ever owned. I hate the garbage!...along with that damn ethanol! Unfortunately stop lights and idling kills the mileage. Hence I try to plan routes with minimal lights and I rarely idle if ever (5 seconds to 10 seconds maybe).

I am willing to bet the F150 isn’t getting that much better gas mileage.

How do you like them. I am toying with the idea of going to a 265/70r18 but I am concerned about the cornering ability. I don’t have a rear sway bar or anything else like that. In all honesty, being in the minority here, but I love the TRD Offroad factory ride. Best of all the Toyota’s I have owned.

This exactly. 59 mph my mpgs aren't bad, but 70 mph and the mpgs tank

The difference between the two sizes 275/65/18 vs 255/70/18 (255 obviously narrower) is minimal, height difference only .02", circumference .06", and after one mile driven less than one tire revaluation difference.

Narrower and probably lighter, but still not sure much there to improve fuel economy.

I will go 275/65/18 when the 255/70/18 west out. The dueler 255/70/18 ride real nice. Handling isn’t bad. I’ll go wider for better handling . I came from a Dakota r/t. Eventually I want aftermarket black rim 20s or 22s . Then I can mount dedicated winter tires to the factory black 18s.

I’m going with 275/65/18 when the 255s wear out.

If you attempt to drive under 60 here in CO you’ll get run over. I average 14.5 mixed driving with towing thrown in that average.

My 48 mile to work and 48 mile home commute was handled by a Scion FRS. Traded it in on a Nissan leaf Sv plus electric car. 13,000 in rebates cause it was a 2020 left over. The tundra is a weekend warrior. It was a nice treat to take it to work cause of snow coming. My Dakota r/t that my daughter destroyed in a accident was a 99 with 76,000. The tundra will follow in the dakotas footsteps. Once tundra paid off I will keep it forever . The Dakota got 11 around town . 15-16 on a long trip. Didn’t care about Dakota mileage since it was paid off. Happy tundra is cheaper to operate since I have payments

I hear ya...around where I live most people are trying to run me off the road doing 67 in the far right lane. And when the snow and ice comes people want to drive even faster...

I just tune these fools out and do my thing. But nowadays you have to pay attention to everyone else’s stupidity so you do get involved. I try to leave as much space as possible because a lot of people have ZERO clue how to operate a matchbox car much less a motor vehicle.

How can I get the "summer blend" all year round? Sounds like more government foolishness.

In fact I don't want a blend at all, no ethanol. That stuff is expensive to produce and uses a huge amount of water to grow crops.

I honestly have no idea how other states work. But I do know NY and NJ use it (November to March...I could be wrong here) and the difference in mileage is crystal clear especially in later model vehicles. It’s ABSOLUTELY bureaucratic horse do-do... And ethanol is even a bigger scam!

Agreed. I've easily gotten 18MPG driving around 65MPH or so on flat back roads. Granted, it'll tank pretty quickly if I push the go pedal more....but that's any truck.

My last truck ('13 F150) had 3.31 gears, and a few other nannies...and the BEST I ever got was 19MPH, and that was going downhill in the mountains in WV. Around town the mileage was actually *worse* than my Tundra is.

I go to Charles fuel and deli in ephrata pa when I can and run 90 octane ethanol free. On way home from work the few times it goes to work I sometimes top off with 89 or 93 speedway gas.

When I am driving around on county roads, running anywhere from 45-60 MPH, my MPG's go way up. When I have to drive on the interstate or stop-and-go around town, my MPG's go down. We were running late for a flight a couple of weeks ago and I did 95 on the interstate to catch our flight. 13 MPG. Driving around county roads looking for land, 45-60 MPH? 19+.

All gasoline is a blend. There isn't one product coming out of the refinery that's "gasoline"; it could be upwards of 10 intermediate products mixed together, even without ethanol. The "blend" refers to the fact that in places with seasons, you need higher vapour pressure in winter to get the vehicle started and lower in the summer to prevent vapour lock, which you mostly get by adjusting the amount of butane.

I get 19 almost always. I drive the speed limit and everything is stock. These trucks are no where near as bad as others state on mpg. Yes, if you drive it like you stole it all the time, it is a dog, but if you drive that way, you can't complain about the mpg.

For me that I live in Chicago I do average between 12-14mpg. But once I’m in the highway I do get my 17-20. Just took a trip to lake Geneva and averaged 19mpg. It’s not the best mpg truck out there but it’s not as bad as some make it seem. The problems the competition has with cylinder deactivation and eco boost crap I think it evens out repairs vs bad mpg. Just close your eyes at the pump

Just getting over the cold spell (-20) we just had in northern Minnesota i will be switching over to Amsoil for everything, as for anything over 60 mph i believe that would be due to air drag of the under carriage.

My 2019 crew max with P275/65’s got 17.9 mpg on cruise control at 70 mph on a 280 mile trip. Trip computer said 16.9 mpg my hand calculation said 17.9. Will be moving to LT275/70’s soon, so mpg may take a dip, but so far happy with my mpg.

Wait until you get a few more miles on the truck. I can achieve 21mph at 65mph in the summer.

I drive my truck hard, 75 to 85 mph, long pulls up mountains and then down and vice versa... I get about 14.5 mpg.

It is the gas guzzler I expected.

My 2016 has 100k at an average of about 13.5. Lots of highway miles. Almost none at under 50 mph. I do have a winch bumper, camper shell and Duratracs.

Think I lost about 2MPG average with the lift, wheels, and tires. Though I knew that going in and no complaints. Keep it stock and that mileage should continue.
