Still plan on staying in the Toyota Family. Actually have my eye on a '17 and up Platinum Sequoia. I tried my hardest to get my wife to sell her JEEP, but there was no budge. With the purchase of my 63 Lincoln Continental, I've got 3 cars to her one so I gotta be a team player and take the L on this one. A HUGE L so something tells me a nice hand held Pew pew will be purchased to fill in the void =P. Plan is to sell the Pro for as much as I can get and build myself the Sequndra. That third row is crucial. Not entirely sure yet if I HAVE to sell the Tundra, but I prefer buying a Sequoia that has super low miles and as close as possible to a the last builds prior to the "kind of" facelift. If I end up getting a 18 and up it would be a waste paying that much for the facelift and then just taking it off. Red rock interior and captains chairs is a must if In letting the Tundra go so I'll wait as long as I have to for the right one and ship it to me. I know having a truck is crucial so I'll end up picking something up eventually. Daddy duties first tho. I really want to make a desert sand version of my tundra when I finish building the Sequndra.

How many kids?? I have 3 in car seats and a dog. The CrewMax Tundra is great. A Sequoia you will be able to fit people but no stuff. There is about enough room for a box of crackers behind the 3rd row of a Sequoia.
Wife has a Suburban because Toyota does not make a long wheel based Sequoia.

You guys sound like our twins. We have 3 young kids and a Chocolate Lab who goes everywhere with us. She fits fine in her bed on the rear floor of the truck. The Tundra is our adventure/camping vehicle.

My wife also refused a Sequoia because of the lack of cargo space when the 3rd row is in use. Absolutely will not work for us on long trips to see family, and we pack light for 5 people plus a dog. We’d have to get a roof cargo box or a hitch carrier.

So she’s in a Yukon XL.

Here’s a comparison with the 3rd row up in both.

2 toddlers and 1 infant all in car seats. Plus the dog. I actually have my eye on a 2021 Yukon Denali, but if I go thy route I’d have to sell both the Tundra and the Jeep. I’d still be in the red 40k if I get the one I want. The JEEP is her daily so I wouldn’t get her the XL. Good thing is that the 2021 Denalis have IRS now so the third row is legit. The new generation Denali is also just about as long as the old XLs.

Lol yea that sounds super familiar lol. I selfishly want to keep the tundra and sell her Jeep for the sequoia. If we get the Denali both will have to go.

Thought about it, The landcruiser’s interior is dope, but that’s not a 90k+ rig. And those 3rd rows are smaller than the sequoia. My main focus is the legit 3rd row space that can fit a large human. From all my research the Sequoia gets great reviews on that

I’m in the same boat kid wise. I have two 3 year olds and a newborn. May want to just bite the bullet and get a loaded mini van then upgrade to your denali when they’re older.

I helped my niece car hunt in 2019, she finally kicked her 2004 Pathfinder 4x4 to the curb and she tried everything, Sequoia, Armada, Forerunner, Pilot, CRV, Highlander and finally landed on a 2020 Honda Odyssey Touring. it has all the safety, cool gadgets for watching kids in the back and will seat everybody 4 adults and 2 kids plus luggage comfortably.
The cargo space is just amazing.
I’ve always laughed at mini van people but now I get it, heck if Dodge really does put a hellcat in a minivan (Hell Wagon) I’d consider it...

This is a horrible suggestion. We tried the Minivan thing for a year and it was absolutely miserable. Getting the kids in and out is a nightmare absolutely abysmal to drive the list goes on.

If you do any traveling at all you will want a long wheel base. I promise you that. The 3rd row is much more comfortable in the new GMs because of the IRS but interior cargo is still non existent.

We travel to Florida quite frequently and we fill the cargo of the extended wheel base and have a roof top cargo carrier.

An extended wheel base Sequoia is my wife’s dream mobile.

Actually it’s quite simple with the Honda Odyssey that has a sliding second row where you can remove the middle seat. Try loading in 2 toddlers that wrestle you every time to get in their seats and you’ll change your mind quickly....

a nightmare to get the kids in and out? My wife had a Honda Odyssey before she switched to a 4runner and I would say that getting the kids in and out of the odyssey was 100% easier. Automatic doors that slide without the worry of the kids hitting other vehicles made it stupid easy. The interior was awesome with flip down monitors for movies and cameras to watch and talk to the kids made traveling convenient. 3rd row was comfortable, but yeah you lose cargo room in the back but a Yakima/Thule roof rack cargo carrier would suffice. My wife just wanted to get back into an SUV. Call me lame but I would not have been opposed to another minivan at all. The new sienna doesn’t look half bad.

We went through three Odysseys bringing my kids up. The first one's transmission went out (after I towed WAY too much with it), the second and third were both totalled when my wife got hit. The last one was a drunk driver. All three had well over 100k miles when we got rid of them. All in all, they gave us great service. And they were MUCH more utilitarian than I ever would have thought. They're also much less expensive to own than a big SUV.

I have a sequoia platinum. I took my family of two kids and two grandparents on a 9 night cruise. We fit everything in the car without roof box or hitch attachments. That was two large suitcases and 4 smaller ones. The sequoia cargo room behind the third row is small compared to the GM or Ford offerings but knowing the track record of GM and Ford, I am happy with the Sequoia. I did remove the center console in the second row to make it easier to enter and leave the third row when the kids seats are occupying the two captains chairs.

These threads that devolve into minivan threads make me laugh. How could any vehicle be easier to get kids in and out off than a minivan with powered sliding doors? Let alone a minivan be a nightmare? If anything, my Tundra is a nightmare compared to my Odyssey in any parking lot with cars on both sides with the massive CM back doors. I get it, some people just don’t want a minivan, that’s fine. But I don’t see how anyone can argue the utility.

Agreed. Minivans are the most practical vehicle for families. Having your arms full and being able to hit a button on your key fob that opens both side doors without having to worry about your kid throwing the door open into another vehicle is incredible and at this point unique to minivans.

My wife loves it when I tell her that her aversion to minivans is largely irrational. :D

In the same boat as many of you. Three young kids and a 80lb dog. I was originally going for a Sequoia Platinum (with red rock seats) but wife talked me out of it. Pretty sure the Tundra can meet my/our needs for when we all need to get in and give me what I'd rather have (a truck for hauling/hunting). Glad to hear it works for a lot of you with that # of kiddos

That's funny. I actually have a Platinum with Redrock interior saved on my "list" and its actually in Wisconsin. Still a toss-up. If I can swing keeping the Tundra I def. will. I just need to make it "her idea" in ditching the JEEP or I'll never hear the end of it.

There are waaaay too many to quote on this thread but no disrespect to y'all who have them. I'm just not and don't think I'll ever be a minivan kinda guy.

Did the minivan thing. When the kids were younger we went through a Chevy Venture and a Honda Odyssey. And I will admit with everyone who has commented before, I hate the looks and being associated with one. But those damn things were really highway cruisers, could load them up with the entire 4 person family, dog and luggage. And, the seats were upright like the Tundra...very comfortable for long distance trips.

You could fit a lot into them when needed.

My wife has a Honda Pilot. Her sister has a honda odyssey. Same exact everything except the body/seats.

the van is 10000000000% more practical for kids.

Why not just get a topper, and put the dog back there?

We have a 4, 2, and 1 year old and an 80lb golden and the CM works perfectly for us. Everyone comfortable in the cab and a ton of space left in the bed and on the racks for kid stuff. Much more versatile than anything else and we considered all of the above. Plus, this was a much more inexpensive option to the Denali XL. If you do go the big SUV route, I wouldn’t leave out the Escalade ESV sport models, those things are BEAUTIFUL. Skip the minivan... cargo space sucks. Good luck on your decision!
