anyone have any experience buying this trd pro grille insert?

    https://mcautoparts.com/products/18-20-tundra-grill?variant=32438012444734

Looks fairly easy to install and seems like the best option for me as my grille surround is ppf wrapped and ceramic coated and don't really want to have that done again because even small areas aren't cheap to do. Just curious about quality vs oem because this is a 3rd party part.

I know @CorsoTundra and a few others have. The only negative complaint I've heard is some people have a slight 'splatter' in the sensor insert that is visually unappealing but doesn't affect fit, form, or function.

I have this insert and have no complaints. I didn't have the issue that a couple had with the sensor garnish and after about 2K miles with it on I have had no issues with the sensor. PXL_20201126_182554139.jpg

This is just an insert for the factory surround correct? Any install threads?

Correct it was just the insert, they sell a version with the surround as well.
I would imagine there is one somewhere but it was pretty straightforward.

Cool thanks, I just need the insert so I can relocate my TSS sensor.... May be the perfect solution. not wanting to sped a boat load to get rid of the chrome surround.

I just didn't see any install pics etc so wasn't quite sure how it all went together.

The only issue is getting the original grill out without breaking tabs :annoyed:

Check this video out; very detailed.

Make sure when you pop out your OE grille, don't break the clips that hold the grille onto the trim piece under the headlight. Push down and pull out.

I heard that the MC Auto Parts one is good, but the garnish may be slightly scratched (there was another member that posted the MC auto parts grille review).

I ended up buying the OEM grille and acrylic plate through a local dealership (don't forget the push washers for the acrylic plate). Total was roughly $550.

One thing to note is that if you have the TSS, buying the OE version, there's a slot to clip the wire harness behind the first "T" in Toyota. Not sure about the 3P options.

Thanks, I will take a look. I bought a full one from Empyre off-road as it was cheaper and in stock. I only need the insert, but whatever. I have taken my OW grill in and out a few times, so I think this should be not bad.

Were you able to buy the OEM grille without the surround (just the insert) from your dealer? If so I'd probably just go that route if possible from my dealer

Unfortunately, I don't think you can. You'd have to buy the whole assembly. Here's your part number: 531010c070b0

    C'mon man...

Will this fit a 2014 tundra

Unfortunately, it will only fit all Tundra models in the years 2015-2021.

I found that if you push down and gently pull out on thease two tabs (eachside)with a long screwdriver it will make pulling the grill easier. Then as i remember its just four button clips at the base of the grill.

I do not have that one but I think plenty of folks do on the forum and mounting is the same from 14 to at least 19. The only thing is that’s aftermarket so fit might not be perfect like factory although people seem to be happy with them.

This. Makes it less scary and doesn't sound like you are snapping anyting.

I believe you can reach down with a skinny enough arm too. I have done mine a few times and don't recall having to use a tool, but I have Grade 6 boy arms. :(

I found this install to be extremely easy (sorry @Swfltoyomafia :D) and took me under 30 mins start to finish to do on my 2017. i was expecting worse since i had talked to 3 others that told me it took them from a lil under 2 hours to split up over 2 days. i took my time using a small flat head screwdriver to pry the clips. i also dont' have all the sensors to worry about since i have a 2017:yes:

Here is mine from Empyre offroad. Garnish trim is ugly, but it fit fine. Quality isnt quite OE, but its not where near the cost either.

Running boards. Shaved vehicle emblems. TruXcedo low profile tonneau cover. LED interior lights along with cargo bay and reverse lights.
I bought the full grill with the black surround..The fit is perfect the sensor cover is clear. I will be repainting the lower and my new used upper surround quicksand in a week or so.
