Thinking about taking a job as a contact tracer while I look for real work. $30/hour plus benefits but I imagine it's boring as hell.

I can fill you in with more details and where to send your resume. Good place to own a Tundra...

Having lived in the Northeast my whole life, I loved it when I went out to visit Colorado on a business trip. Would definitely consider moving there but too bad that's not what my skillset is in.

It's not easy finding cal techs. We have trained entry level folks but in dire need of expertise now. We as a company have been working thru the whole Covid thing. We have a large footprint in the life sciences, bio-med, and pharma sector so we have been super busy. We have a large footprint with green energy as in wind farms not to mention defense, military, contract manufacturers, etc.

Just got in a nifty Keysight EXA Signal Analyzer configured with the 7 GHz option. The touch screen EXA series are quite nice. This one as configured runs around $36K which is very reasonable actually due to it's measurement capabilities. 20210126_055832.jpg

Today I'll help validate a new automated calibration procedure for this 40 GHz Agilent E8257D PSG Analog Signal Generator. As configured only $70K give or take. You can buy a millimeter-wave frequency extension module that will generate a sine wave up to 1.1 TeraHz. (1100 GHz) Crazy stuff =$$$$$20210218_064151.jpg
BTW, we still need calibration techs here in Denver.

I play guitar. Some days it’s at the big commercial studios in town. If I have to take a rig, I take something manageable that can fit in my backseat. In this pic, there are seven instruments, a pedalboard, and a gear bag:
    1FD5AB12-AE3B-401D-8B03-488D4A7E99F3.jpg
Normally, I also take an amp with me, but the studio I was headed to that day has a great collection.

Often, the client’s budget can handle cartage. Cartage means that another guy gets paid to deliver my A rig to the studio and set it up for me. Up until 5 years ago or so, I had to carry all my gear EVERYWHERE. This feels like the pinnacle of luxury, haha. All I have to do is sit down and plug in. When I’m not working, my cartage guy stores this stuff in climate controlled public storage near Music Row. There are a few guys in town whose sole job is to cart session rigs around for players and set them up.

On days when I’m not booked at a studio (like this entire week due to the weather), I’m at home recording on songs clients send via Dropbox or WeTransfer.
