    Hi there,
Looking for photos of camper shells on your trucks. I'm interested in purchasing a leer 100xr specifically for my 03 and wanted to get some opinions on durability, visibility and any other thoughts you have had on your purchase.
Thought on other brands/models are welcome.

I've got a cab height leer and it's just fine. The shape is a little more bulbous than I'd like, but the construction is just fine. Windows could be bigger, but it's a tradeoff. I'm in the process of upgrading to a Leer high rise that I'm excited about.

I had one on my long bed 2002 for a short time, nice cap but it was not tall enough for me to work out of.

Tundra Rear.jpg I'm not sure if it's a 100xl, but it came with the truck when I bought it. I think it's been on the truck about 3 years. It looks pretty nice and fits well, but I'll be looking to sell it very soon, I prefer a tonneau cover.

Here's my 100xr. I would say that it is very durable and comfy having spent plenty of nights in it over the 10 years it has been on the truck. I've replaced the struts but that is a normal wear item. My handle needs to be tightened every few months. I would like to eventually change out the side windows for windoors. As for visibility, I feel like I rely more on my side mirrors than my rear view.

My Swiss Top came with Sliders and I went back to the Factory and myself and the only guy there that day swapped out mine for Windoorsin about an hour, could not be any more simple as long as the profile and size is the same.
    Big improven,ent for me too!

My leer looks same as above two, came on truck when I bought it. Also came with a pretty nasty dent in the roof... Not sure how it happened so can't blame the design. Overall it has been a good canopy last 8 years. I take mine off and on every year, so it's got some bumps and bruises.

Must be possible... It's a pretty big dent, can pop it back up but it just comes back down. Someone must have stepped on it or super heavy snow load maybe.

I'm going to try and correct with some braces, but it's only cosmetic so not high on priority list.

Got a midrise Leer. Not sure what model, but apparently not made anymore?

No leaks at all, slight spidering/cracking on one corner. Carpet lined, came with a bedrug. Got it off KSL from a nice overland-type guy who had it on his '05 DC.

Love the shell . . . rear portion of the window 'Pops-Out' and is easily accessible w/o getting in the bed.

I have an 03 with a leer topper that came with the truck. I like having it. I'm still exploring all the benefits, but so far it's been great. I am getting a backup camera because as you would expect visibility is not great backing up. Side mirrors make me a bit nervous when backing out of my driveway with snowbanks as tall as my truck. I have to re-glue the rear window trim piece, but otherwise it seems to still be in great shape and plan to hang on to it.

Can you explain how this works? You can access the bed through those little windows?

What I meant was that you can open the window without climbing into the bed to move a 'slider' or crank a 'tilt-out' window. The window only pops open about maybe 3 inches, in the same manner the rear windows in a Gen 1 access cab open.

Thought I would ask a slightly off subject question...Can the Double Cab and Access Cab use the same shell?

Granted mines a long bed, but you do gain a pretty noticable blind spot with the cap. But it’s easily negated by adjusting the mirrors differently. Been happy with mine for a year now

I read this question shortly before heading out the other day and saw this, forgot to post it. I think his answer to your question would be a yes. My mirror is blocking the view but, yup, that ratchet strap is hooked into the rear fender, over the cap and hooked into the other rear fender to ensure a secure fit!

Does anyone still make high toppers for SCLB first gen Tundras? I bought one over 20 years ago, it was a ARE MX model. All I can find now is cab high toppers. I bought a White 2004 with an almost new Leer topper but it's only cab high and would like to upgrade to something roomier.

On the Snug Top website, it shows they still make the 'High Liner' model . . . I guess it's just a matter of breaking out the mold and laying one up & painting it.
    Here's the link.

When I first got my truck. Topper is ok. I had an XR on my ‘14 tundra that was far superior. I liked the dual “twist” style opening on that- much more hefty. This one has been a PITA because the mounting point on the right side inside of the topper for the strut shifts and breaks my struts. I need to drill a new hole and make it more secure

    Great picture!
My son and I spend 5 days in the Colorado backcountry in a kitted out 4Runner two summers ago and that started my Toyota / overlanding obsession.
The alpine loop and surrounding area was the highlight of our trip and I’ll never forget the deep snow on top of engineer pass in July!
