Hey everyone, I’ve read through a lot of different discussions on this forum and the one thing that confuses me is whether I’ll need to make body mount cuts for 35s with a 3.5” lift. I’ve see some folks say no cuts other than some front mud flap trimming/removal and others say cutting and welding will be needed.

My plan is to run a Rough Country 3.5” lift https://www.roughcountry.com/toyota...=2020-toyota-tundra-4wd-740669&sid=NsIfx6xPzP

Add 35x12.5R18, likely Falken Wildpeak and run them on 18x8.5 rims with a +30mm offset. Can I do this without cutting and welding the body mounts? Oh yeah, I have 2020 TRD Off-Road /SR5 CM.

    Thanks

Despite what people say over and over, 3" lifts don't make a difference. The wheel and tire still make the same travel upward. If you plan to take it off road it would rub with a lift still.

The way to prevent it is tire choice, offset, and potentially caster.

    A 285/75r18 will be a 35 less likely to rub than a 35x12.5

+30 is a good offset, the most popular for reducing rub seems to be +25 on a 8.5" wide wheel.

Caster can help with the cab rub, but there will almost certainly be rub on the front fender plastic. Adding caster will make it worse. Good thing with the fender plastic on the front bumper is you can just remove it. If youre concerned with removing it youll have to trim it or push it forward. Another option is bumper spacers.

I just got 285/75/18..I haven’t installed em yet. I have 3”. with +30 (5.75+ backspacing?) and depending on your UCA’s, you SHOULD be fine. If you rub when you wheel it’ll be the liner or skid plate, both can be modified.l easily. If you need a CMC it’s only $50 for SDHQ plates and a shop won’t cost but maybe 150-200. 285/75 will be 35” and an inch narrower. Amazon has em for $258 each no shipping. My local discount tire price matched, It’s a hell of a deal..

Every truck is different, if you aren't totally prepared to do the body mount chop then drop down to 33's. If you go in to it saying, I'm gonna try to avoid BMC, but if I have to do it then so be it, go for 35's

    This!

You'll never know until you get it on.

Play it safe and don't try and put the biggest tire possible in there.

FWIW I ran 315/70r17 Mickey T ATZP3s on a stock 19 Pro. Icon Rebounds. Paid for a BMC and turned out to not even need it. Even in reverse I had about a .5-.75" clearance back there.

I did remove the front fender liner on the bumper.

BMC rub is something you can wait to see if you need to address. It typically only shows up while reversing, unless you go with a very aggressive stance or something larger than a 35. When it does rub its not something that will immediately cause any damage either.

For reference...here are 33’s on a 3” lift. It’s a funny game to make the space work. But if 35’s concern you find a comfortable 34”. Otherwise I think my truck currently looks silly with 33’s

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I’m going to avoid the 35s and see what I can do with 33s or 34s even. I definitely want to avoid a BMC. I’ll probably dial down the lift as well from 3.5 to maybe just 2” or so. Thanks again.

that was my first thought. My Duratracs are 35.1” tall, and I only removed the little mud guards at the front of the wheel well. I’m on stock wheels (and stock UCAs) with no spacers, but I’ve seen guys make these work with different offsets.

I haven’t taken them on any technical trails yet though. Waiting for warmer weather as we usually camp when we go off roading. If they rub off-road, I will do some cutting.

I have true 35's (Toyo R/Ts) and have NO rubbing at all.

The secret sauce is listed in my signature. I did push in my inner fender plastic wall a inch on the frontside of the fender. Removed the front backside mud flap.
And still have the little front aero mud flap on, cause I like it on there.

    That's it.

Also look at the manufacturer's specs, most "35" inch tires don't actually measure at "35" Keep it around 34 and you should be fine.

yeah, 285/75 gets pretty close to 35 (34.8ish). I was thinking of going 35x11.5 instead of 35x12.5, but it seems the tire options are more limited at 11.5.

I went with 285/75 and it’s 35” OD. And am not even close to needing to cut..helps to have the bumper, but this is on a 3/1 lift. pizza cutters!

These are 295/60 (34 x11.5) on +20 offset. They rub the cab mount but I am gonna try and max my caster before I have to CMC

Tall and skinny pizza cutters style. It’s a thing on here..bumper is Extreme Terrain Barricade HD2. It’s cheap but not cheap. Love it..only $800 shipped and super clean. Really well made and it’s my favorite bumper I’ve seen

I put the exact same lift on my 21 and I'm running 295/70 Nitto ridge grappler v2 on the factory 18's no rub at all and I easily could have went a little bigger I just wasn't interested in getting different wheels yet.

other then a front wheel well liner trim
And mudflat removal I don’t rub at all.

+25 offset and skinnier tires will max your chances. Everyone has slightly different results. My 285 75 17 (34 x 11.2) clear but barely after plastic manipulation. No metal affected. 6112 @1.9 +shim (2.4” lift).

That’s a nice setup and the exact kind of look I want. I was talking to my mechanic, who’ll be doing the work, and he said he’ll make 35s fit but warned me that a 12.5” wide tire means components will wear out faster due to the larger contact patch of the tire. He said a 285/75R18 still gets you a capable tire, but you won’t be replacing/repairing components (brakes, bearings, etc.) as often. I’ll post a pic once I get everything installed.

Hey everyone, thanks for the advice. I can’t bring myself to making body/cab mount chops so I’m going with Falken Wildpeak 285/75R18s and I just received my Icon 2.5IR coilovers and 2.5 piggyback rear struts. Tires don’t come in until the end of the month and also waiting on the diff drop kit. Once everything is installed, I’ll post a few pics.

    Thanks again

Congrats on the purchase, I've got the stock TRD PRO suspension and am running Falken 285/75/18. No rubbing except when I am on an incline and full turn to the left. I think it is rubbing on the sway bar but haven't confirmed since it is so minimal. About to throw a bumper on her so we'll see if this fixes any issues or makes anything worst.

Nice truck. I was so close to getting that cement colour, but the dealership said I can get black right away or wait 3-4 months for cement or quicksand. I didn’t want to wait.
