Should I buy this Tundra?

You haven’t bought this yet? Lol.

 

The question really should be: WHY HAVEN'T I BOUGHT THIS TUNDRA???

Pull the front seats out and do a full shampoo/wash in a can. Same with the carpet...or just toss it and get some replacement from a floor place...a piece you can cut yourself using the old as a template. Shampoo the rear seats as well...let it air out, doors open in the sun for a full day in a place with NO CATS. Then toss a dryer sheet of your favorite scent up under the seats and leave it there for a while...or until you have to pull over, puke and throw them out. Wet dog smell is nothing...normally just wet sour carpet padding, or maybe somebody's bud hurled in there at some point. Either way, nothing to sweat.

 

Ok sounds good! I just got home and vacuumed the shit out of it and there are a lot of stains. I was thinking of spot treating those before I shampoo the whole truck.. I wish I could take the seats out but I have zero tools for that. (I really need to invest in some, so many projects I don't do because all I have is a basic screwdriver lol). It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'll have to wait to shampoo.. here's a few pics after vacuming ... Let's see how well I do

A bucket of hot water with a little soap and that trim , armrest and dash will look great . Then use a protectant on it ( whatever you like ) .

 

409 and shout work wonders on an interior.

 

Not that bad at all. Wait until the weather gets a bit warmer in a couple months or so. Those seats and carpet can definitely look spiffy again. In the meantime................get some tools

There's no waiting till warmer weather... The smell it has needs to go asap!! I'm thinking of shampoo sections of the truck instead of all at once! The seats would dry pretty quick if I could get them out of the truck.

 

Why do u recommend this brand over OEM?

 

Tell me about it. I scoured Sacramento and vicinity for one before I found mine. Still $12-15k plus for a nice one and that doesn't guarantee the timing belt has been done.

 

Congratulations and good luck with the truck, excited to see how it turns out. How does the truck stop? The brake fluid in the ad looks a little dirty.

 

The best thing to do would be to remove the seats, pull the carpet out, and clean it outside the truck. Or at least remove the seats that way you can get to the areas it covers. If you clean it outside it may dry quicker.

I'm in GA and I'm a perpetual FGT/T and TG4R hunter (1st gen Tundra/Tacoma and 3rd gen 4Runner) for the last 10+ years. I've had 10 of them...of those 1/2 were bought local and 1/2 I had shipped

Get those seats out and rent a steam cleaner.

Those seats are so easy to get out is is insane!
Get a cheap socket set or borrow one from anyone else,we all have them and yank those things and get the carpet done,it will be a huge milestone and at least you can do it now too right?
You can get sockets at Lowes or HD cheap and they are warrantied right there too so no great excuse not to have some.
It is 0 degrees here and hard to even be outside!

Aisin is a OEM manufacturer for Toyota, you'll spend much more at a dealership for virtually the exact same parts.

 

Ya I noticed the fluid too.. it seemed to stop pretty well when I test drove it thru the hills at low speed but when I got on the highway it wasn't as quick as it should be.. records show brakes were replaced 3 years ago when it has 160k miles. It now has 200k so I'll probably get new brakes when I replace the shocks.

The steering in the truck is really good and doesn't shake at all and is really tight so I like that!!!

I have an inspection with a mechanic tomorrow, I'm expecting it will need all fluids changed in addition to timing belt.. it definitely needs some tlc but I'll take care of it! Im planning on owning it for a long time!!!!

I currently own an 03 tacoma that I will need to sell. It's going to be really hard letting it go I've had it for 11 years. I'd like to figure out a way to keep both but I don't think I can. My plans for the tundra are to buy a travel trailer and do some traveling.

 

Ya... I'm thinking it's finally time to break down and get a socket set lol.. the seats do look pretty easy to take out.

I'm assuming there's no wiring or airbag sensors attached to the seats? Just and easy unbolt then bolt back on

 

Good to know thanks! Yes Dealership pricing is just rediculous! I have a good mechanic that I trust. He did my timing, pump, and serp on my tacoma for 800. Pricing with most mechanics out here is 1200... It's just rediculous how literally everything in my area is just overpriced! I'm sick of it and can't wait to move!

 

Just get some AP cleaner and dilute it down. Will get most of that stuff out, especially with your steam cleaner. Set of drill brushes work wonders after you spray and soak for a few.

I have those brushes but I was hoping I could you my bissel pet carpet formula for the shampoo... Im pretty broke right now and don't want to buy anything unless its a must. Is the AP cleaner a must have? Or can I get away with usuing bissel products. Also I've heard soap and vinegar is amazing but I've never done it..

 

If you have seat airbags, there will be connections, but they are obvious to you when you are trying to take the seat out.

 

For that price and probably $1500 of maintenance/fixing and you have yourself a sweet truck for 1/5 the price of a new one. Great find. Glad you were able to buy it

 

The steam cleaner will get a lot of it out. The ap cleaner I saw on some detailer channel and bought some due to their results. It does a better job then other products I’ve used(maybe it was because I bought and used those brushes for the first time then). There is no harm in trying what you were planning on first then coming back with this stuff later if it don’t work. Elbow grease is free!

Seriously, squirt the crap out of your frame/axle using some PB Blaster. Its fun! Takes about less than a can and maybe 15 minutes. Make sure you shoot up in the Boxed Frame area. Soak it and then come back and rub grease with a large sponge on everything. Follow up with more PB a few months later.

Put some regular motor oil in a squirt bottle and load up your frame instead on the PB a few months later. The key is the aforementioned Grease Rub. Nothing spectacular about it. Its hard work and takes time, but that shiny grease turns into a doughy black protective layer that doesn’t wash off. MolyB Grease in a tub from Autozoned $6, can of PB $7, and a large sponge are the basics.
