It comes with the S-Pod Tundra kit, I just have their stickers on the switches. You can order the switches actually engraved with what their specific use is and they will come attached to the panel. Has an app so you can be 50’ from truck and turn on anything connected to the s-pod. It also has a monitor that will turn everything off connected to it when voltage gets to a certain level so it doesn’t drain your battery.

Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Dave Ojeda at Trailworx Fab gave me the quote via Facebook for a hybrid bumper like the one he did for this FJ:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B7wLwoxHLhE/?igshid=2hib3y3m1qjc

And sorry, I was wrong about the quote. It was actually $1500, but still a good price considering that includes powder coating. There are a few other fab shops in the DFW area I have yet to contact. A few, like Baertrax, are known for being extremely busy, though.

$1500 is a damn good price. I was just quoted $3K from my local fabricator but they can charge that amount due to no other competition in town.

And $3K is pretty high just for a bumper. I’m no fabricator and have no shop or equipment, but I can weld, grind and cut plate and tubing. We used to make all kinds of stuff in welding class, so I have an inkling of the labor involved. I wouldn’t think shop rent and the cost of steel would be that expensive. Sounds like a quote to give a customer just to say they’re not really interested in doing that kind of work.
I’m wondering if there are any dirt track or other kind of race shops near the Corpus area that might offer alternative fabrication services?

ok...this might be a stupid question, but.....How much of a difference is there when it comes to strength (armor) between steel and aluminum bumpers?

I can tell you that there is no strength in the rear. It would crumple like foil.

If you have the time, take the class! I took several semesters and really liked it. Learned a whole lot, too. I was surprised that the best students were women. They were churning out these beautiful pieces of metal art and dominated TIG welding, or at least they did about 20 years ago.

The end caps are just bolted to the hitch. I think the hitch would take the brunt of an impact. It seems like the factory bumper is just cosmetic.

    That’s

That’s what makes it frustrating finding an aftermarket rear bumper that allows you to retain the BSM. I would buy one(rear bumper) tomorrow if I could find one that was decent and would work with the BSM.

I was talking to my friend that runs a high end body shop and he said those BSM units on the back side of the bumpers are so sensitive you can lay too much paint down and they won’t work properly. So that’s why there isn’t anyone that’s building one right now that you could classify as armor.

I believe the SteelCraft bumpers are BSM compatible. @Sgasp90 has one model on his truck. I have also heard that if you order the bumper that I have directly from Road Armor, you can order it with the BSM capability.

Are there any rear high clearance bumper options for us? I have no problem chopping some sheet metal.
