Bad idea or go for it ? Sand blast first or sand paper to scruff it up so it will stick

Well. We'd need to know what kind of chrome it is. If it's true chrome plated you'd have to electro strip it. If it's chrome paint then sand blast. If it's chrome plating on steel it's damn near impossible to get through it on a sand blaster. You'll be in the blast cab for an easy 20 plus hours.

If the wheels aren't all that special and you aren't paying to have it professionally done, id say wet sand, prime, and paint.

Chrome plated I was told on steel I think he said I would have to call back and double check. Sounds like it's more work than anything I have time for. I really like the powder coated look and durability. Had it done to my 21's on my Bmw few years ago they looked great. Think I'm gonna skip buying these wheels thanks for the info. Also what do u think about universal fit wheels ? Can they crack easier around lug area ? Looks thin in some spots

Definitely skip on them then. Universals are okay for day to day but if you're wheeling is recommend an off-road designed wheel to guarantee you don't have stress cracks or bending. Nothing worse than being on a trail with no usable wheel.
