    Speaking of Taco’s

I hope the new platform will turn the new taco into the same size as the gen 1 Tundra.

Options for a 6.5 foot bed with a small extra cab. That would be a usable, off road, roomy truck.

    I would buy one.

Any other year and they'd release it a the Chicago Auto Show, that's Toyota's go to for new releases. And that happens to be in February, other than this year. That's why the commercial idea was believable since it's hard to pin point where it would happen this year.

Toyota is announcing the release of the next gen Tundra! We got it wrong, it wasn’t 2022 model year...it was 2202 model year!

Is this affecting production of current style V8 Tundras? May be convenient for whoever still wants a good and new V8 Toyota truck.

The semiconductor shortage is a big deal. My guess is Toyota will not unveil the Tundra until they feel confident in their ability to produce enough trucks to meet demand. No sense in a big roll out of a “world beater” truck unless they can produce enough to meet demand.

::: Just signed up, long time lurker :::

BOOOOM !!! This post made me quit being lazy and join up. You hit the nail on the head, and with the V8 nearing a possible extinction, this post should be stickied for all to remember the old saying : Don't know what you got until it's GONE !

BB good to see you on here, I remember you from TT forum ! Anyway, I just got back into a Tundra after almost 2 years in a 2019 4Runner ... I gave up over 50k miles and 3 model years to get back in year/make/model I wanted. Not to mention owe more money and be a 2nd owner :( ... but you know what ? ..that frown is in jest because this is hands down the best true truck out there :) !!

How many miles on your truck now ? Had been keeping an eye for the right truck, this 16 had 65k miles. You are a good owner who leaves things better than you found them and have a great build. Promise to give the forum folks first shot at buying your rig before trading in if you ever go another route ! I know you liked your RAM too but are old school Toyota at heart. Friend just got a 2020 Laramie loaded and while its a nice truck, just too much nannies and glitter for me.

Thought downsizing to the trusted 4.0 and have an enclosed bed (basically) truck would keep me happy an easy 10-20 yrs. The plan was to just get a used Tundra on the side later until I realized that I need two vehicles like a hole in the head. 4Runner is awesome but just not the same. Full size truck FTW !

Production of 2021's is taking hits from all sides. Dealers are getting a tiny fraction of their typical allotment. If you really want a 2021 better go get one quick.

That's what all dealers told me when I was shopping. Figured it was 50% BS designed to get me to buy now, 50% truth. I guess it's real.

Anyway, got mine! The government can take my gas-guzzling V8 from my dead cold hands.

I just heard the new tundra will be unveiled this Friday 2/19 and the “big” things we keep hearing may be true. Sounds like they will have an electric option. Supposedly 625 hp and a 450 mile range

I've heard lots of lines to get me to buy something, but the lack of production was a new one (I got that 1 MGM Platinum was coming to Northern Alberta). So while I'm still sure it is an exaggeration, it's pretty easy to tell they're not getting what they're used to. So for me I'm fine waiting until Fall and if they have none I like then I keep my 2016 until the next gen, but if someone truly wants a 2021 they need to jump on it like you did.

I think you dislocated my knee you pulled my leg so hard. Whenever they do announce it I think it'll come out of the blue, they've held the leaks pretty good until now, no way they let the announce date out now.

Love me some tundra, but this whole “world beater “ deal is lame.

just roll out a solid next gen tundra, we all know it isn’t going to beat anyone in sales except Nissan.

It doesn’t have to be though , next gen in the nice niche they have . That’s good enough

^This. I don't want an industry-leading 1/2 ton. I just want a update to the reliable truck that has already proven itself. Add phone compatibility, up the payload a bit (maybe box the frame while you're at it), add direct injection to the V8 and maybe 1-2 extra gears to the transmission. I really don't care if the new Tundra has the "best-in-class" claims for anything...just keep it reliable.

And please add a diesel option...Toyota's overseas diesels are pretty close to meeting North American regs in terms of emissions. It doesn't matter what game Toyota plays with their gasoline option (turbo's, direct injection)...mpg's will tank when the engine is put under load. I know a lot of North American truck owners have become wary of diesel because of reliability issues with the domestic 3/4 tons. Toyota knows how to build diesel engines for the long term...they've been doing it for years in the overseas markets. Just give us that option!

Toyota filed for a patent last summer on something that looks to be a ducted fuel injection design (which could possible eliminate soot and lower nox emissions) and has terms that lead it to be a diesel engine but no one knows. They also trademarked "I-Force Max"

    https://www.thedrive.com/news/34786...ssion-diesel-truck-engine-may-be-in-the-works

I really wish companies would spend more time focusing on refining the diesel engine and figure out the emission problems to get rid of the after treatments and other complicated systems. Its already more efficient by design, and does very well in a truck application. Also where i am from the price between gas and diesel has been very close to eachother for a while if not the same. But who knows how long that is gonna last. Think there is a 20 cent difference now, diesel being more.

Also this whole mindset of just keep things that same or barely add improvments....guys its been since 2007 since anything was done to the powertrain, 14 years.... if everyone thought like this we would still be driving stuff from 100 years ago. Its laughable peoples resistance to change, innovation and continuous improvement is a good thing when done correctly.

I personally hope Toyota does do a world beater with this generation because then the domestics will up their game too . This would be great for the next couple years .
