What if it’s front wheel drive with optional electric assist on the rear wheels? :crapstorm:

They have to reduce emissions and gas dependency somehow.

If it is a great design and it works.... who are we to shoot it down. Toyota said that the new Tundra will blow others out of the water. Maybe you are on to something.

Were reports of the Tundra NADA unveiling incorrect or have they just managed to keep it hush hush?

If Toyota are waiting / delaying, it's obviously due to factors beyond their control such as the chip shortage. If people can't understand that manufacturing is challenging in these strange and difficult times then let them go waste their money on a domestic.

    They will be back!

But, in some cases it is not about understanding the situation, it is need driven. I can wait another year or two, I like what I have and don't mind driving it for a while longer. But if I am in an accident and it is totaled today, and I have to replace it immediately because I use it for work; there are no Tundras on the lots - I will have to look at Ford or GMC. Some people are in situations like that. Even the ones who lease and who's leases are up and they want to get into a new lease; if Toyota doesn't have anything to just roll over into they will have to start shopping around.

It is an unfortunate situation - Toyota is caught in the redevelopment cycle while Covid is going on and while the chip shortage is happening, and there is a resin shortage also that might be driving the chip shortage, but will affect other parts also.

I thought Toyota sued the company that made their frames for the first few years of the Tundra ?

That isn't how toyota works. they build what they sell. most of the vehicles they make are already sold when they roll out of the factory. less demand means they reduce output and are likely to exit altogether if sales drop below their set profit margins.

You’re missing my point. No one says we don’t understand. I’m in manufacturing I understand, but thank you for that. I’m just saying they can give a timeline when production will start, or release pictures for this truck so people that are looking will have an idea. Releasing a timeline or pictures has nothing to do with manufacturing or chip shortage. And if people want to go domestic that’s their prerogative. don’t knock them saying it’s a waste of money. My 2018 tundra was bought back by Toyota under lemon law so what are you saying about that? My 2018 was a waste of money and time.

my wife's third cousin son inlaw said that he had a friend ... well more of an acquaintance he worked with years ago who went to that meeting and according to the source they threatened them by saying whoever released information about the 2022 Tundra would be subject to taking the beer virus shot.

I was at the dealer today to get an oil change and he had the electronic brochure for the 2022 Tundra. Just received. He gave me a copy.
Large file, but check out the interior on page 5. Engine options are a surprise also.

PCS issue since first week of ownership. I think they changed the sensor 3 times, camera once and full harness 2 times. Not to mention the multiple calibrations. They finally gave up. Even the corporate rep told me to go ahead and lift it if I wanted to. They know the issue was there before.

I think it's kind of funny how everyone thinks Toyota has to release info in Feb of 2021 for a possible 2022 model. Toyota is not Ford. I actually believed the stupid bowl rumor of a reveal commercial. Next rumor is the auto show. Honestly would be surprised if any info comes out before August or later. Just how Toyota works. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Third generation tacoma was shown off in January 2015 and released in September 2015. They then did a bunch of marketing events throughout the summer.

I’d think the tundra would be similar.

Third gen Tacoma was a 2nd gen Tacoma with new skin and a camry motor. The chassis in the 3rd gen Tacoma is 15 years old. Not the same as an all new design. But I hope you are right and something comes out soon.

So true. I had a 2005 tacoma as my first vehicle in high school, and after driving my buddies 2018 Tacoma TRD PRO, I still thought my 2005 was more fun to drive.

Yeah IMO the 2nd gen is far superior to the 3rd gen. That 4.0 is one of Toyotas great motors.
