I posted some kid stuff on craigslist. The "Husband" sent me a text asking me to email his wife if the stuff was still available. This was the reply I got. The different than normal scam is she doesnt ask me to pay the mover. This stuff can be sent in a Toyota Celica and doesnt need a mover lol

Hello I am Barbara Rodriguez and i am very much interested and I am okay with the condition as said and please again, what is the last asking price? And am going to add $50 to it to be the best offer , i would be paying you with a check which would be mailed to you kindly withdraw the advert from Craigslist and considered it sold. My husband will be overnight the payment asap . I would have loved to come down and take a look but i have a very tight schedule but i believe the condition is exactly as you said. Please, send me the Name and Address and Phone Number to send the check to and the Amount so My husband will overnight the check to you . When you get the check have it deposited into your bank account i will wait for the clearance of the check from your bank and so my mover can come make pickup for me. Hope to read from you soon. Thank you, Barbara Rodriguez

Yeah, no. No one gives $$ freely like that on Craigslist. I wouldn't give my addy either. If they paid PayPal maybe, but not a check.

If it smells like $h!t, it most likely is.

I myself wouldn't even reply to that.

Um, yeah, scam. From a fraud prevention site.

Beware of anyone offering more than what you asked for. This is too weird. Who would do that? Especially since Craigslist is known as the place to go for good deals. Other clues include poor grammar and misspelled words. In the offer I mentioned earlier both Oregon and California were misspelled and English was obviously not their native language. That doesn’t necessarily mean the inquiry is coming from abroad but it’s certainly a red flag.

How the Buying & Selling Scam Works in a Nutshell.
Legitimate Seller (LS) places an ad for the vehicle on the Internet (or elsewhere) with an e-mail address for responses.

Scamster Buyer (SB) responds to ad saying he'll pay the full asking price plus some extra. Different reasons are given for the extra amount, usually for shipping the vehicle to a foreign country or because someone owes SB some money. The extra amount is usually between $4,000 and $10,000. Moreover, SB offers to pay with a cashier's check!

LS is amazed and delighted to be able to sell his vehicle for the full asking price and responds to SB.

SB responds immediately but then some kind of delay usually crops up.

Eventually, SB sends the cashier's check to LS, but it is mailed from a foreign country (to thwart USPS investigators checking on postal fraud).

LS replies to SB that the cashier's check has arrived and, presumably, deposits it in his bank. The bank honors the cachier's check (usually within 1 or 2 days) and makes the money available to LS.

SB urgently requests that the difference between the cashier's check and the cost of the vehicle be sent or wired to his shipping agent after which he will make arrangements to pick up the vehicle. Sometimes a bank transfer is requested.

LS sends or wires the money or makes a transfer to SB's account.

Days or weeks later, LS is informed by his bank that the cashier's check is counterfeit. SB has disappeared. The vehicle is never picked up.

I had a guy that wanted me to fall for a PayPal scam "give me your PayPal account info and send you $11,000.00" for My 16 year old truck sight unseen? Ya right! I sold it a week later to someone who actually wanted to see and drive it before making a decision.

That made me laugh. Most of the scams are working in the thousands, you're selling something for $65 and someone is trying to rip you off for $50?!?!? Unethical and illegal desperation may have just reached a new low.

That would be great if you have the time, there's a British comedian that does that and it's hilarious. You have to share.

I couldn't think of the guy's name a minute ago, but it's James Veitch. He used pseudonym email accounts and said the amount of scams multiplied just like you said. So, yeah, if it's a personal account that you use the price may not be worth the entertainment that it would provide, well it would be for me, but probably not for Shane. But if it's the cragislist reply thingy....

    I sent the reply:

Oh thank you so much!!! I can really use the extra money to invest in my muffler bearing company that I am starting from scratch. Its a specialized bearing to put in the muffler. Im going to call it "Bare Muffs" I think if you just write out the check to your mover he can cash it and bring it with him so we dont have to wait on the banks. I will help him strap it down too and get him a cold Fresca. When do you want to set this up.

Well, when the sweet sounding young lady calls to increase your credit limit and decrease your interest rate just make sure to give her ALL of your account information and tell her you're good with a call back at a later date . If not, it just might not happen
