2021 TRD Pro order

Hi, new here sorry for long post. After reading lots of you have been in similar situations, looking for some advice.
Been searching for a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro CM MBM, since Dec, nothing available locally. Looking out of state 1/1/21. Worked with multiple dealers in closest neighboring state to locate truck on the ground with no success, asked 5 different dealer to place order, all refused. Wanted to make dealer trades, all trades ended up rejected. 1/11 found dealer willing to place order, gave $1000 fully refundable deposit, order sent 1/15. No word from factory yet, I continue to search just to cover all bases and maybe find something sooner. 2/6 I locate a truck, thats exactly what I'm looking for, in another neighbooring state. Truck is built, with VIN, available and not pre sold, currently in transit. I spoke to dealer, truck is expected to arrive on lot 2/17-2/22, dealer has no deposit required policy. Was able to get truck reserved in my name and marked Pre- sold, negotiated a deal I'm happy with.
My question is should I contact the dealer (thats holding my deposit for factory order with no confirmation yet) right now to request refund on deposit and cancel order, OR wait for truck (thats in transit) to show up and sign first, then request deposit back? I don't want to jump the gun and screw myself out of a truck after all the waiting and searching. It would be nice to have $1000 refunded prior to signing on (in transit) truck, should everything pan out. The $1000 won't make or break the deal. What do you all suggest in your buying experience? I would wait until you're driving your new truck before requesting your deposit back. Just in case the other one falls thru. Good luck.

 

Normally I'd love to trust people and I'd tell you to cancel the order, get your refund, and then go buy that truck that's on its way.

But with the way things have been, I don't think I would cancel that order until I had keys to the other truck. A lot of bs and shenanigans have been going on with dealers. Some is their doing, some has been out of their control. As long as you can swing the purchase without cancelling the reservation, I'd recommend that.

Thanks everyone for your input. The truck will be shipped here since I live in Alaska. I'll request refund once I see it roll off the barge and keys are in my hand. Hoping the dealer doesn't try to keep all or part of my deposit if order is confirmed by then.

 

Nah. It's fully refundable at any time up until you sign. If they get the allocation before you get the other truck, I'm sure they'll have zero issues finding another buyer.
