Light Duty is mostly what they call it now and used to call "1/2" ton.

For Ford, that is the F150, GM and Dodge is the 1500, Tundra is just the Tundra, as it has no Heavy Duty derivative.

FWIW, '1500' series related to weight would be 1500lbs AKA 3/4 Ton.

    "world-beater" o_O:rolleyes:

I am the biggest Toyota fanboy out there, but yes, Tundra will not be crushing F-150 or Ram anytime soon.

Very strange that nothing substantial has been leaked over the past few months. If Toyota is truly coming out with a new model this year, quite a few people have to know about it. In most industries, you would've seen quite a few leaks by now. The fact there haven't been any substantial leaks makes me think we won't see a full redesign till 2022.

No way they will "CRUSH" the big 3 with one engine option and one duty rating, especially if it is a TT V6/Hybrid. Besides, the big 3 will roll out an update a year later which would catch up, and Toyota will take another 10 years ;-)

As stated earlier and by others, Toyota needs a full range of trucks from basic work to all the comfort and luxury/conveniences of the big 3, but also need to up the game on multi mode 4DW systems to include full time, part time and terrain selection, a range of motors from full hybrid, part hybrid, Turbo 6 and NA 8 CYL Motors, and need a standard/light duty option with much higher payload and towing options. Heck, even a crew cab dually ;-)

ANYTHING short of that and the Tundra will stay where it is at, and if the only powertrain is a TT V6 or Hybrid, they won't win over most of the current truck ownership.

Will be interesting to see what they leak tomorrow and the complete truck eventually.

it will be interesting for sure if they come out with 1 motor and 1 motor only and it be a TTV6.

I really think they should go with that TTV6 hybrid deal, thats fine, but they should totally upgrade the current 5.7 V8 and offer that as the standard or optional motor

or punch it out to 6.2 and then have an option for NA gasser that will add to the line up.

The wife and I have a family friend who is a geological economist for one of the HUGE oil companies. One of her duties is to visit potential drilling sites and figure out (for the company) if it will be financially advantageous in the long run to invest is said sites. She disclosed to us (and take it however you want to) that the Earth contains enough obtainable oil to power us for at least the next three generations. She also stated that with advances in drilling technology, that it will go well beyond even that. According to her, fluctuations in the price of oil are not due to lack of supply in the ground or expectations of future decline in supply. Rather, it is due more to political motivation, market forces, and who controls the supply. I was born in the late 60's and growing up in public schools, we were lied to.

Lied in public school? man, you should've tried Catholic School. FWIW, ask any legit geologist (not politically motivated) and they will tell you exactly the same as your friend.

Eventually we need a renewable energy source...electric ain't it. Until that time we will be some fossil fuel burning mofos.

*If* this is indeed true, it still does not solve the issue of our carbon emissions and the overall impact fossil fuel usage are having on our planet. The other big take away from the "over supply" of oil and gas that we have is that it sits on top of some very crucial wildlife areas and protected, sacred places. The last administration opened up drilling and made it easier for resource extraction to happen in places that should never be touched and rolled the US back environmentally decades with over 100 environmental rollbacks. Say what you will and support whatever politics you want, but that is a devastating blow to the places that make our country great and a pillar around the globe. If we continue at our current rate, there wont be much of a planet for us (most likely our kids) to drive our 12mpg trucks around on.

Oil and gas has always been politically motivated and for years the majority of US crude was being exported to other countries- we were being sold a lie about US oil independence.

I am by no means an expert here and only going off of what people much smarter than myself have studied and said. I am all for the right hybrid or full electric truck- assuming it is reliable, doesn't cost a fortune (see tesla's scam of pricing), and can still haul my family and our toys to the places in nature that we love.

Toyota is notorious for not having any leaks. Same thing when they unveiled the Tacoma a couple years back. Almost nothing was known until it was released.

Good point, as a hunter and conservationist I am always concerned about this. We also have to be careful about where we put these wind farms and solar farms and other "environmentally friendly" energy production sources, those also turn the whole landscape into practically an industrial one... no trees, no animals. Just got to be smart about it. Oil will be around for a long time and will be needed for a long time, theres so many things that use it...

They did it in 2007. Blew everything else out of the water so much so that 14 years later the truck is still relevant. They will never have 15 motor options and trim levels. T hey don't sell enough and would never make their r and d back.

Yes I was reading an article about the 5.7l and how advanced it was for its time. No other company was doing what it could do.

I've yet to see the real environmental impact on the production and recycling of all the batteries in these hybrid and electric vehicles. I watched a show on the open pit lithium pools and the damaged to our environment caused by its production. I wonder if you are front and back ending all of your impact to the environment using electric. Also, the percentage of electricity generated for these vehicles by the burning of fossil fuels. We'll get there one day, but we're not there yet.

I love nature and the outdoors. But, given the choice, I will retain my 5.7 liter V8, versus an electric vehicle, thank you very much. When it comes to "environmental consciousness", the USA is hands down way beyond most of the world. I've been to Europe and Asia. Now, those places are disturbing when it comes to pollution. England is ridiculous. They are insane about water conservation but they burn diesel like nobody's business.
