Just bought a 2007 Tundra Extra Cab in very good condition with just a couple of issues. Overall a solid truck with recorded scheduled maintenance performed at the dealership. The truck has the TRD and tow package, but not much else as far as custom. Surprisingly it doesn't have the rear camera, which I would have guessed would be part of one or both packages. No problem since I will eventually replace the head unit and add a camera while doing so. I'm looking forward to making this my own and will also be documenting the build process on my YT channel. The first order of business is a general cleaning, exterior, interior, engine bay, then...a new auto tilt Homelink mirror. Also looking at a used set of original Toyota running boards that I could get for a decent price. Any and all comments and recommendations are welcome.

im about to dive into the rear camera mod for my sony headunit that i installed last week. not looking forward to doing it in a snowy driveway, but thats what ill be doing this weekend. i picked up this camera: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PN1A54/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which ill be putting in the tailgate handle. on my last truck i had the camera down by the license plate and the perspective was really unhelpful. it eliminated the blind spot and let me know i wasnt going to back over anything/one... but there was no way to use it to back right up to things.

Let us know how it turns out and if you're happy with the placement and the camera in general. Not sure there are huge differences in the actual image quality of the cameras due to the limitation of the video connection, but it always helps to have a real person give feedback.

So am done for today in the engine compartment, but still have a ways to go. The hard to remove spots are even more difficult on the firewall due to the many metal lines running along there. Gets pretty tiring stretching over the engine with a small brush trying to get at all the spots back there. And yes, I'm OCD, lol. Have always had a thing for spotless engine compartment probably due to the fact that I was always the one working on the engine anyway. Here is a before and after.

Anyone have a secret tip on how to clean up the cast aluminum parts in here?

On cast aluminum diluted simple green and a dish scrub brush will usually do the job. There are stronger chemicals that will clean aluminum really well, but they may not be what you want in your engine bay. Also be quick with the degreaser, as you don't want it to dry onto the plastics.

I picked up the same camera. It comes with a small hole saw to punch the hole in the tailgate handle. I need to make the last connections behind the Phoenix Automotive PX6 Tesla Style Radio I installed. Anyway, the camera looks nice enough.

nice. so you havent tested it out yet? did you have to glue the camera in place? it seems to move around pretty easy. i planned on installing it and if it ended up moving on me id jsut toss a dab of glue on it. ive been procrastinating install due to inciment weather and the lack of a garage right now, so if you get it hooked up, let me know how it works. might be some inspiration to motivate my a$$.

No haven't tested it yet. The camera itself has been in the tailgate handle for a month or 2 now. I just have so much regular work to do plus all the DIY projects I have going on around the house. I need to get it hooked up soon though because spring is around the corner and I'd like to have it working to make it easier for when I hook up to a trailer or my boat.

This should fit under the rear seat - 12" woofer in custom box.

Surprisingly enough, my amp came in a day early and on a Sunday at that. After quite a bit of research, deliberation and consideration of budget constraints, I believe I made a great choice with the Sundown SFB-1000D. Yes it's a full bridge design, and yes it's made in China, but Sundown Audio is a solid company that cares about the end user's experience - I talked to them personally. Sundown amps, and this one also, tend to meet and exceed their specs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvvrL6dKnjY - thanks Big D for the review. Finally, I found a sale on this unit that was too good to be turned down. So initial thoughts on unpacking? Nice packaging, solid build quality, included gain remote with power and clipping indicator all encased in a powder coated black metal enclosure, nice heft, small footprint, and very clean fit and finish. Very happy with everything so far.

Also received the PAC SNI-35, a line output converter, since the 1000D doesn't have high inputs. This unit is a budget choice, but a well regarded one nonetheless.

I decided to make the woofer and sub separate from the storage area. It will be easier to take out and easier to lug around. Here is the latest design I'm messing with.

Had a little time and energy at the end of the day to make a simple mock up of this box and fit it into the Truck. There was a question if I could make it as a rectangular box vs a slanted towards the back box due to the seats having a slant. Well, the answer is yes to a degree. If the box is 6" tall, It will work and the seats will lock in the down position, but they will be resting partially on the box. If I cut it down to 5.75" tall, I think it will have the clearance needed. That's why I do mock ups, so I don't muck up the final.

Here's the MU frame between the rear seat mounts and again with the real woofer trial fitted.

The woofer won't be fitted this way, this is just to test the router jig and fitment of the cut out.

Does anyone have a link to material that closely matches the carpet of a tundra interior? I'd like to wrap the finished box with it to blend it in with the rest of the cabin.
