I ve been hearing a busted speaker sound for some time that slowly gotten worse, and today I took off door panels, and found the problem. Water from rain has been dripping onto speaker for some time cause there s a good amount of rust. I remember when first installing these components I tried it with a speaker baffle which was supposed to protect speakers from situations like this, but they made speakers sound like crap. I ended up not using them. Has anyone ran into this, and if so how did you solve it?

When I used to install new systems in my own car, I used to buy these 1/2 round plastic shields. They deflected any water that would run down the door channels. They looked kind of like these that are sold by Amazon.

You know, when I decided not to use the foam baffles I was thinking of carving them up like the ones you show, but I didn t want to pull out the speakers out again, and reinstall them. In hindsight I should have:annoyed:
Oh well. Now I have good reason to get those 300 watt Def Bonce mid range woofers I ve been eyeing:D

Make our own. Go to Home Depot and buy a black grate. Cut the center grille off and cut it in half. Install to speaker adapter.

I used this and cut a half circle out of the back for airflow and it sounds awesome. Before that water would drip and it corroded the speaker wire.

Yea. I tried baffles before, and it took a whole lot of bass away. I ended up not using them. I think they provide too small of an enclosure. Running them free air in the door sounded great, but now I need to rig something up to keep the rain water off of them. Maybe some foil backed deadener stratigically placed above the speaker:monocle:

Did you cut the backs out? I can imagine having it sealed mostly would do that, but after cutting them and just leaving the top and maybe less than half of the back on, it made the bass tighter and the mids sound much better. I have two 10tw3s so I let that take care of most of the lower frequencies anyways.

No. I did think about cutting out the back, but I didn t want to pull the speakers out again to reinstall baffels. I just left them without anything. I think deadner will work though. I still have plenty of that, so I won t have to buy baffles.

I put that kilmat inside and out and did the baffles after because water was getting in there and actually caused the speaker to stop working because the wire corroded so much. That’s the reason I did the baffle and it was a bonus with the added sound quality. It was cheap and well worth it. Deadening won’t stop the water.

What I mean by using deadner is to adhere it above the speaker like a roof. If it does drip down in that area the foil backed deadener will divert it away from the speaker.

Gotcha. You can never have enough deadener. Even after I installed the baffle I put more deadener around the outside of the speaker mount all the way around haha.

No. These are from a company from Texas. TT. They have some crappy service and are not allowed to mention their name on this site. I routered the back to create a chamfer. This is very important.

I can only imagine how this speaker sounds. It's a shame you are killing sound. Do not use a speaker gasket thicker than 1/16 between the Driver and mounting bracket. Secondly, don't block the back of the driver by using this baffle. You are creating distortion.

Was thinking the same thing. I would really like to get the speakers out of the doors, and mount them inside some where. There s not much in the way of locations in front though.
