    Hey guys.

I'm going to change the gear oil in my rear diff today and I saw online that I need to have Crush gaskets. My question is is that true and if it is do I need one or two and is this part the correct one?

On the 2002, I seem to remember not needing a new gasket. Just reused what was on there.

I hardly ever replace them. Iirc though it should be an m18 x 1.5mm thread. So 18mm i.d. washer if needed.

Don't believe that's the correct part. That's for an oil pan and its generic, not specific to any model it would appear. I believe the Drain plug on the diff is much bigger than the one on the oil pan. Check your breather while you're down there, if you haven't done the relocation mod, give the cap a few twirls to loosen any crud buildup.

I got a new drain and fill plug from my dealer's parts counter and both included a crush washer.

Yeah I do like to do it one hundred percent. I spent two and a half years at a technical college studying Automotive Systems Technology just so I could work on my own stuff and do it the right way.

I have a crush washer for one of my drain plugs in my toolbox, maybe the oil or transmission. There it sits. I always forget to use it when I'm doing a fluid swap. Never had a plug leak in spite of my short comings.

I'm not going to bother using it. The dealership is 30 miles away from me and I don't feel like paying or waiting for it to ship. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Same here. I bought a pack of 10 Oil Plug Washers from Toyota. Lined them up and taped them to my Tool Box like @abcinv does with his coins in his coin holder.

9 of the 10 sit there unused but I do enjoy their Mojo.

Of course that was 10 years ago and I forgotten most everything that I've learned. However I kept all of the text books except for the electrical one which disappeared which sucks because that was a really good one to have. Plus I'm also going to be buying a one year membership to all data for my Toyota Tundra so if anybody has any technical questions or needs drawings or anything like that just let me know and I will send you a copy of whatever you need.
