TRD package with the yellow Bilstein-Will an 18"x9" wheel with +20 offset rub?

I've been perusing the forum and I can find posts that have stock wheels getting 285/65R18 tires sizes on stock suspension to have no rubbing issues with no modifications.


My first question is:


1) When people refer to stock suspension, is the Yellow Bilstein 4600s considered stock even though they are installed on TRD off road packages?


I have the TRD off road package with Yellow Bilstein shocks.


My second question is:


2) Will I have rubbing issues or need to modify the Tundra to fit an 18"x9" wheel that has an offset of +20mm and with 285/65R18 tires installed?


I know the offset numbers play a huge role on rubbing. The stock 18" Tundra wheel has an offset of +60mm.


OEM spec:


Wheel is at +60mm offset.

275/65R18

Overall Diameter: 32.07"

Section Width: 10.83"

Rim Diameter: 18"

Rim Width Range: 7.50"-9.50"

Sidewall Height: 7.04"


My preference spec:


Wheel is at +20mm offset.

285/65R18

Overall Diameter: 32.59"

Section Width: 11.22"

Rim Diameter: 18"

Rim Width Range: 8.00"-10.00"

Sidewall Height: 7.29"

I had that exact wheel.and tire setup you are asking about.

Truck has a tough country leveling kit and I still had some rubbing at full lock, especially in reverse. It was only the little air dam thingies in front, easily removed without cutting.

 

Are you referring to the front little mud-flaps? If so, when you removed them, how many inches clearance did you gain at reverse full lock?

Would you have a photo of the “air dam thingies” if they are not the front mud-flaps.....?

Also a photo of your setup especially how much the tire sticks out beyond the fenders?

I really appreciate you posting that photo! That looks clean and not too aggressive. Have you done anything since that modification like lifting it?

Can I bother you for one more photo? Just a side shot to see how the tires/wheel combo look from far away.

No other mods since putting them on. I actually was not a fan of the poke (it was about an inch and a half more than stock and have since put Toyota TRD wheels on. I am actually selling the Fuels (I have a thread in the Marketplace). I don't suppose you are in the NY/NJ/CT/PA area are you?

 

Mud flaps sit behind the tire to prevent slinging stuff on your truck or at people behind you. If it is in front of the tire it is for air deflection and is not a mud flap.

If anyone says front air dams, they mean the small plastic flaps in front of your front tires. They are attached to the bottom of your bumper.

 

I’m in Florida. Man, I thought 1.5” past the fenders is ok. Now you got me thinking. Did the sides of your truck get dirty quickly due to the road dirt slings?

Maybe a more aggressive mud-flaps like RokBlokz could help with the dirt slings?
