So I see that most people seem to use the overlays to blackout their badges. Is there a reason that you're not using the new OEM black badges. I'll admit, the Limited badge was difficult to find, but I have found them available once I finally got the part number. I have been able to kit out a full set for my truck for about the same as I could for the overlays. I just feel that the OEM badges will be better in the long run. Am I missing something?

I used the OEM overlays because since I didn't have to remove my stock badge I wouldn't have to worry about lining up and leveling the new badges.

I went the replacement route last year after the plastidip started looking like crap. I looked at the overlays but the cost was about the same as full replacements and the look didn't do it for me on a couple of the emblems. I've removed a ton of emblems over the years and haven't had any issues, I apply enough heat to start the separation, get a finger hold on it and pull/pry while keeping some heat on it. When done this way most of the double sided tape will come with it if you're lucky, the fishing line method essentially leaves the entire backing for you to tackle. Also if you spray behind the emblem as best you can and let it soak for a minute or so with WD40 or Goof-Off prior to emblem removal it will help with the separation process.

I use painters tape to frame the emblem before removal so I know exactly where to place the new one as well.

This is basically the route I was planning, although I do have a heat gun that I can adjust the temp on if it's needed. My wife is an OCD graphic designer, and between that and a couple ideas I have for alignment, I don't think that will be a problem either.

I did the overlays. If I go through the hassle of taking the badges off then I’d just leave them off completely.
