The 3rd gen tacoma engine uses an Atkinson cycle im pretty sure. And I think so does the prius

    2GR-FKS[edit]
The 2GR-FKS is a 3.5 litres (3,456 cc), 24-valve DOHC V6 engine that combines the D-4S system from the 2GR-FSE with the simulated on-demand Atkinson cycle used in the 2UR-GSE and 8AR-FTS engines. The 2GR-FKS and the 2GR-FXS selectively use direct and port injection.,[11][12]

The Prius’s ICE just a gerbil. To be fair though, his name is Atkinson. :cookiemonster:

It's a fake Atkinson cycle, not a true Atkinson. But you may be right on the Prius, I'm not sure about that one.

    Detail of the Day

Hidden under the skin is a Racing Hybrid:
    680ps 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine
& 272ps Aisin AW / DENSO electric front motor

I think this is the motor some of you want (1ps is close enough to 1hp).

Which is crazy because a 1 ton GMC payload is just under 4500#. seems a bit of a stretch to put 3300# in a f150, but thats just an opinion.

    Prius and
Prius and RAV4 hybrid use Atkinson Cycle engines due to much higher thermal efficiency, and torque. But less HP and run noisy. I doubt the new Tundra will be?

I feel sorry for Mike trying to design a new Tundra to please everyone. Design the new Tundra that gets better than 30mpg, keep the V8, has a payload over 3K, can pull over 12K, has all the latest tech and the price better not go up.

....and even if he achieved the impossible I'm probably going to hate it anyways because it's different.

So you want 3/4 ton capacity, Sedan MPG, no new technology so that the reliability stays up yet all the new technology that all the other trucks have. Must keep gas guzzling v8 because of sound... Sounds easy enough, no contradictions there.

30mpg for a gas truck just won’t ever happen. I don’t get people wanting that. 1,700-2,000lb payload and a 6.5’ bed is my only wish list.

There is nothing wrong with wanting better fuel mileage. Or, wanting more hP, torque, towing capacity, payload, better looks, more amenities, comfort, etc. Hell, I want it all. But, every vehicle is a compromise of sorts. A 1 ton by golly dually diesel is unlikely to be very good at overlanding, and a mid-size pickup like the current Tacoma is unlikely to tow 10,000 lb trailers very well.

I always advocate for choosing the right tool for the job. I have never seen a pickup that could do everything well. Every buyer should do their homework and choose the truck that "BEST" fits their needs. A realist will exploit the advantages but recognize and accommodate to the shortcomings.

Well, totalled my 19 F250. Since there is a bunch of domestic truck guys in this thread, does anyone have a 2021 Dodge cummins with the cp3 pump? Thinking of going that way this time.

If I ask on the dodge forums all I will get is fanboys.

Yep, usaa just called to let me know it is totalled. Slid on some black ice into a dirt bank. Buddy tugged me out and I drove it over 30 miles back to my place, and then to the shop. Steering was a little off, but 4wd worked(heavy snow). Shop claims that the front axle pushed into the tcase and broke it and the rear axle is bent. No airbags deployed. $35k in damages. I suspected the front of the frame was bent as well. None of these trucks can handle a hit directly in the front corner, seems that a direct front hit is best.

edit- front headlight, hood, fender, front bumper assembly, drivers front door(repair/paint). When I was under it it looked like tierod got hit. The shop then claims front axle housing, rear axle housing, tcase, both driveshafts, and maybe trans.

I defintely wasnt expecting it. Maybe the shop owner has his eye on some of the parts? I would like to be shown the damage but its already totalled and now the insurance owns it.

It probably worked as intended crumpling the truck and keeping the occupants safe. Maybe the airbags didn’t go off because the truck absorbed the hit so well.

It doesn't take much to total a ford. Hit a stop sign at the right angle and off to the scrap yard they go.

They are defintely acting shady. I told them I was coming down to swap my tail and head lights back to the stocks and swap out the ford emblems and they immediately got defensive and said its too late. Soon as I pushed back, they immediately said ok but give us a few hours notice before you come down. Really glad they arent repairing it, I would be chasing issues with it forever.

Did they give you an option to buy it back? When my jeep got totaled I had the option worked out to be a good deal.

The CP3 has always been great, never understood why they went to the cp4 in 2019

I did ask and they will get back to me. The issue is that the motor is worth $$$$ so its not going to be a cheap buy back. I occassionally buy wrecked vehicles and repair them and then go through the Ca recert process to be able to make them Ca “street legal” again. So if the numbers are right I will go that route, but when I called lkq the amount they get just for a used powerstroke($9k) makes me think that the insurance co will want more than I want to spend.

Front axle pushed into tcase and broke it but 4wd still worked to drive 30 miles home. And somehow the impact was also enough to bend the rear axle. Come on. What a joke. And “Dodge” means to avoid.

Just go the Ford route and have 1000's of configurations so they can say they do it all , I prefer the Toyota fewer options and consistent ratings. Not the best way to get the best but at least there's no door jamb sticker shock for many.

Too bad they didn't go with a small V8 (3.5 to 4.0) but with the turbos. Would be the same power but then would keep the 'I need mah V8' crowd happier. Then it's on to the turbos being bad, yet they love diesel trucks. I just don't think anyone is allowed to be happy when it comes to rumored vehicles.
