Hey guys bought the 2021 CM last week, had the dealer install the leveling kit and now the truck has a slight drift to the right when you let go of the steering wheel. Dealer is telling me this is a normal characteristic of putting a leveling kit on. Does this sound legit? Are they trying to snow me?

The dealer is full of it. Either an alignment was not done or they screwed something up.

Ok, that’s what I’m thinking. I’ve talked with 2 very legit suspension shops here locally. One says that sometimes you may need offset ball joints when doing a leveling kit. The other pretty much seems to think it’s all in the alignment. I did tell the dealer to check the alignment, now whether they actually will I don’t know. I’ll never know TBH. There’s also a very slight popping I can feel through the accelerator pedal, only when turning around in a parking lot etc., usually coming from being parked, back up, turn the wheel and take off type thing. Doesn’t pop any other times. If it’s still doing it when I pick it up today I’m going to bring it to one of these independents to look at.

If they can't fix it or refuse to or tell you it's still normal, have them remove it and refund you the price.

Then take it to a good shop and have them do a lift/level for you.

Just got off the phone with my salesman. He said all they need to do is adjust the alignment for it to track straight. I’m like DUH! So, he’s getting with the guys in the shop and getting them to make the adjustments to counter the slow right drift. They were trying to tell me that that drift is built into a lot of these new vehicles. I’m aware that a lot of 18 wheelers have this but my truck tracked straight as an arrow before they installed the leveling kit. I’ll let you guys know how it comes out after I pick it back up. <SIGH> brand new truck, literally, and it won’t track straight down the road? Yea, right!

That’s probably what I’m going to end up doing. We have 2 very reputable alignment shops here.

If you have a leveling kit installed, ALWAYS have the alignment done as well. I learned the hard way on my 2010 Tundra.

Yeah frustrating another 100 bucks compared to 1500 for new rubber so worth it

Make sure you are not driving on a crowned road. A lot of roads around here are crowned for water drainage. In my neighborhood I have to drive right down the middle or truck drifts to the right.

Yea, Im not driving on bad roads etc, interstate driving. And it’s not in my head, it seriously didn’t pull left or right before the leveling kit. Just got off the phone with them again and salesman says they realigned it and he took it down the road and going one way it has a slight drift to the right but coming back it doesn’t. That’s a road condition issue there. They said they’re going to refund me the cost of the alignment and told me to bring it to HAUK’S (one of the very reputable alignment shops here), which I’ve already made the appointment for next week. Ill update you guys on the outcome. Thanks for the support!

You’re not going to believe this but I just picked it up and took it down the interstate and the damn thing is near perfect straight now. It’s WAY better than what it was doing before I dropped it off. I have a feeling they didn’t do an alignment on it originally and now that they did it’s good. They didn’t test drive it. If they would have they would have noticed how it really drifted to the right. The difference is night and day now. Crazy right?!

I think the “pop” noise you hear is the ABS self test. Does it every time you start engine and get to about 5 mph. Appears to be normal. Enjoy your new ride!
