My truck is getting ready to hit 150,000. The previous owner sucked at maintenance. The skid plate was held on buy a ratchet strap and one bolt. What oil should I use?

Synthetic mobil 1 only... you can use the high mileage oil if you want... just remember to use toyota oil filters only for the check valves. That helps reduce no oil pressure on start up...

Oem you will notice your valves dont chatter( as miles gets high) when cold and you will notice a faster response time in oil pressure on start up(cold or warm) to do the check valve in place holding oil in the filter.

Alot had to do with the engine using more oil with rp than others say mobil 1 Also some engines not just toyota but other have seen major engine wear using royal some have seen high failure rate to do the oil. Dont get me wrong Royal is good but, they havn't been though what mobil oil has done when it comes to R&D.

TRD filter uses a different filter and its a less flowing filter ( means it flows more freely) vs the toyota filter.. They would really be ideal in cold weather like 10 degrees and colder climates..

Thanks for the info. I guess it's going to be M1 then. Don't Tundra's come with synthetic to begin with?
I have free oil changes for life from the dealer, so not sure what they will want to use.

If you have a new engine and you run synthetic the engine will not break in correctly, it takes longer for them to break in then in the manual says. Synthetic just doesn't protect engine parts. what it does it (digs) itself in the metal and forms a bond to the metal. What the oil can do is like tempers the metal to go higher temps. ranges.

Funny thing is when you convert a dino engine over to synthetic the engine runs cooler. To do a correct way everyone thinks just dump the oil in and it will protect WRONG. When a engine has been in dino you have to do a mixture to it. Reason is simple so the metal can absorb the synthetic oil. Oil changes stay at 3000 miles or 3 months.. start with 60/ 40 then 40/60 then 20/80 then full synthetic. When you reach full synthetic go 3000 miles change it. Now we have a engine that has taken the oil correctly.

Now remember synthetic oil was made for jet engines. Guess what they dont change the oil in them they only top it off till rebuilds. Ask any A&P tech they will tell you not till rebuild. Even rebuild techs cant find anything wrong with bearings do to how synthetic oil has changed. . Jet engine will see more stress than your truck will see in 500,000 miles... When do you change the oil in your truck? Synthetic is not like dino oil. It doesnt really break down like dino oil does. It properties are different why you dont see dino oil in turbine engines.. Remember synthetic is done is a lab where dino is mother nature so you have some varies there. When do you change synthetic? i get a kick out of this... first thing everyone says is 5000 miles. Really? thats for dino not synthetic. The only way you know when it time to change the oil is when it gets DIRTY. When the color starts to change from lite brown to dark change it. Miles and time are not a factor with synthetic.

I wish i would have keep a pic i will see if i can find it. my tacoma i had to do valve cover gaskets. While the covers where off i did my inspection, they haven't been off in 6 years i believe. Synthetic oil changed at 15,000 inter, 12,000 inter, and guess what people NO traces of oil sludge anywhere not even in the corners on the engine where oil is not really present. Cams lobes are chrome no marks from oil problems. WTB my tacoma has 270,000 miles on her. Its been a true synthetic since 15,000 miles to convert and shows what Mobil has done.

Soon either bob or sean is going to banned me from my long posts i do and limit me. :D
