Remote Start-Truck Cuts Off When Door is Opened

I cursed this "feature" since getting my truck. I couldn't understand why Toyota would make such a decision. Then the other day I wound up changing my clothes after remote starting my truck, but before leaving the house.

When I climbed in and it shut off, I cursed it again. Then it wouldn't start and I had an epiphany. I left my keys in my other clothes, and without that feature, I could have driven off and been stranded at my destination...

 

Mine stays running when I open my door but unless I have the fob with me it won’t allow it to come out of park .

 

No, it would just shut off when you pushed the brake. Like every other brand....Not allowing you to leave in the first place.

Occasionally when letting the pup out before I leave for work, I'll jump in and start the truck so I don't have to have it shut off when i get back in to leave. If I made the mistake like @DIYDad then i'd be stranded. But yeah if you're doing remote start, you wouldn't get out of park. But possibly locked out of your house if you park outside
