Getting into overlanding, what are some recovery gear essentials that y'all recommend and what specific products?

I’m interested to see the recommendations. While I do not overland per se I do a lot of camping and have been down some gnarly trails. Here is what I always carry with me -

    Portable compressor (Viair 400P)
    ARB tire deflator
    ARB 17,500 lb snatch strap
    2 soft shackles (Amazon)
    Shovel (SOG collapsible)
    Hatchet (https://www.atlas46.com/products.ht...wE#!/HARDCORE-Survivalist-Hatchet/p/150848979)
Extra valve stems with valve stem tool
    ARB Tire repair kit
    Jumper cables
    8-500 ml bottles of water

    Looking into some Rotopax next.

4 of those expensive orange boards and a shovel. In all seriousness, I am not an "over-lander" but prefer being prepared and self reliant. There are some very informative threads on here and many other resources available... I have been checking out 4wheelingwesternaustrailia.com. ARB has tons of good gear and info as well. Plan your op and op your plan.

https://www.4-wheeling-in-western-australia.com\ here is one about MAXTRAX; watch.

Man, there is so much- Solar, SAT Comms, gears, liquids containers, armor, wenches... Do it and have fun bro!

A firearm and blade(s) are great to have. Recommend researching laws for wherever you are headed and whatever you do don't take a gun to MX- or magazine- or ammo.

Here are some of the basics that I’m looking at. Yes I know that some of the items aren’t the name brand like maxitrax, etc but I’ve been doing research for a few months with some off brand items and they seem to work for others. Lmk if anyone differs and had other suggestions.

I’ll be ordering a SmittyBilt XRC Gen 3 12k synthetic winch with factor 55 ultrahook

I have a couple of tool boxes and plan on buying a cheapo one from harbor freight so if it gets stolen then I won’t feel bad. Also, have a bunch of medical kits, fire extinguisher, GMRS radio, jumper cables/ portable jumper and other misc stuff.

Any recommendations that aren’t Max Trax? Or are they really the only way to go?

I like and have GoTreads. Reasonably priced. I find Max Trax to be a bit cumbersome. https://gotreads.com/

    1. One of the first things, 'cause it's one of the most commonly used, is a GOOD jack. I got tired of dicking around and gave in to the Pro Eagle. It's over priced and yet worth every penny. Mine's been used 4 times on my last 3 trips. Sure you can get a HiLift, I did. For me to repair the dent caused by the HiLift cost as much for my time as a Pro Eagle. I got by for years with a HiLift and it worked...."til it didn't. The PE will help at home too.
    2. At least one full sized spare.
    3. Fire extinguisher
    4. Tools to work on anything/everything.
    5. Shovel.
    6. Tow rope, snatch rope, proper shackles which entails proper recovery points on the vehicle, damper
    7. Always carry way more water than you need.
    8. Maybe this should be #1 Credit card with a big limit.

Honestly, I've only ever used my boards for leveling the truck or trailer to sleep in. I went super cheap on traction boards and glad I did. I avoid mud 'cause I hate the clean up. I think I'd have a buddy tug me before getting my boards out, but that's me. The ones you posted look good and new to me so, thanks for that. 99% of the time I'm with a group. If I were more frequently solo I'd be much more inclined to buy better boards.

+1 for Go Treads. I've only had to use them once so far, but they did the job.

Yup, this. I don’t think I’m even going to mount the boards on the new truck. They take up way too much precious real estate and they never get used. Maybe if I’m going on a solo trip to the beach or the snow.

I love the soft shackles, I have the Bubba rope ones.. but definitely easy deflator, and some sort of portable air with back up valve stems and tool just in case.

Zip ties, duct tape, metric sockets 8mm - 19mm, or some wrenches, and a tow rope too.. I have found my random tools to be more helpful for myself or others.

maybe you can be the guy that finally brings the drill that’s seems like could always be used but never around

    EDIT:
Not recovery per say, but a radio should also be on your list if it isn’t already. Cause if you don’t have what you need you’ll need to call for help.

Good friends with well built trucks. Anytime I’ve been stopped they have me going more often than not with no time to pull my own tools out to fix. Carry a drill, angle grinder, 1/2” impact and more but still fine tune what I carry every trip.

Has anyone tried these? I think they would work for every situation you would use traction boards. I’ve just never seen anyone use them.
