Especially since they quit offering the supercharger 6 years ago.

When I looked into this previously there didn’t appear to be any checks related to towing ratings vs actual for non DOT. This could be a state specific item though. Looking at it as strictly a liability issue, if you are well over your limits and are in an accident it could be a major problem. Your insurance company potentially could deny your coverage if they can prove gross negligence.

Sadly, this won't happen for us Tundy fans, the V8 is going out so that makes things worse, if the V6 isn't paired with a beastly hybrid system then Toyota has officially lost the off road/muscle game :(

Though Toyota does need to step up, at least making the "Pro" versions more off road ready (bigger AT tires would be a good start), simply too many little things not worth the expense that get changed the first week.

That 5-link is gonna look great sitting on a lift at the dealer!

Kidding. I agree. It seems that Toyota has been behind in the off-road performance market for a while now.

I still want to get back every time from the remote places I take my family. That's why I'm in a Tundra.

Not sure if you've lived outside the US, but people do that quite commonly in the UK and Europe BECAUSE THERE ARENT ANY OTHER OPTIONS. They don't have high torque trucks, they have little estate cars, and do their stupid caravan trips with them slowing down all the roads. Those cars also typically have better performing engines than the US, which helps, but then are struggling to get above 50MPH on the roads because they don't have the power.

How much size and power do we need vs want? You should ask your wife that and see if she says she's okay with a tiny car.

Bummer if Toyota doesn't reveal the new Tundra during the SB. I was looking forward to it.

    Interesting release.

    The Good:
    New coil link rear suspension
New / updated Fox Live Shocks
    New interior
37" tires available (with new shocks)
Selectable exhaust note (silent, normal, sport, baja)
    New High Output EcoBoost 3.5L
    Raptor R next year

    The Not So Good:
    No Hybrid PowerBoost option
No power specs for new 3.5L high output motor
No info at all on Raptor R
    Blue leather interior

To be honest, I hope it tanks the Gen 2 Raptor market. Would love to jump into a new 2nd Gen with the Fox Live shocks, throw in an aftermarket tablet style head unit with wireless Carplay, tune it, and save a bunch of money over a 3rd gen. A new Hybrid Platinum or Limited with the Tremor Package is awefully tempting as well. Still holding out hope that Toyota steps up with the new Tundra tho!

Wasn't there a rumour the new Raptor was supposed to get a big V8? Or was that just wishful thinking?

    Dafuq is right.
I typed out a long sentence about my thoughts on the commercial, but then realized you pretty much nailed my reaction much more succinctly. Maybe it won't be their only spot?

I'm hoping the "car" comment means they could have a truck commercial :)

I love my Tundra, wish it had a higher payload rating, but other than that it is great.

Toyota is avoiding anything about the new Tundra except for what seem to be some very staged spy shots. The Tundra is a niche market, Toyota knows it, and I think they have a Turd on their hands and know that too.

Nobody likes to talk or hear about the time they f'ed up.

I don't know about "niche", but I get your point. I think it's very possible that whatever is unveiled will be something of a disappointment.

Consider how underwhelming the competition, specifically the F150, was in 2006 when the current (basically) Tundra was unveiled. In my opinion, other manufacturers have really upped their game over that span and it might take a bigger effort than Toyota was prepared to make to get back in the ring. Hoping I'm wrong.

ya that was bullshit, they butchered the soul of the supra with a BMW.

we had several Supras back in the day and man what a vehicle it was for the time.

They collaborate for both of their performance vehicles. The 86 and the Supra. Toyota solo projects are reliable and efficient. If they were collaborating with another truck maker, then you might have a point. They aren't, so you don't.

I really only care about suspension and horsepower. I want a Ford raptor equivalent that says Toyota Tundra.

Edit: I don’t want to build it myself pc by pc over a 100k - 200k + mile span, I just want to drive it out of the showroom to the desert

    Well that's no fun!

    :D

Though TBH, if Toyota's "baja" Tundra's numbers are not like the aftermarket LT setups, then I'd skip it. Reason being, a mid-travel kit has 11-12" front and 13" back IIRC, all it takes is the right shocks and UCAs.... That's like a $5000k upgrade (@ filthy motorsports), still cheaper than a raptor that has 13"/14" and a moped engine (bashing gen2).

    A bunch
Thing with both Ram and Ford - yes they have models with huge numbers, but they're not the volume models. Ford did step up their game and it's now 1500-2000 in their volume models (numbers are off the top of my head); Ram I'm not sure of, I'll have to check out the MIL's 1500 for exact numbers. But it's not crazy numbers that Toyota can't beat - sure they likely won't beat 3300 lbs, but if the Platinum Crewmax can do 2000+ lbs (I'm hoping that's in the hybrid version) that will be very impressive.

Or you know, they're hiding it like companies used to so they can have a big reveal with tons of eyes. Toyota culture is different, just like with TPMS, and I can definitely see higher ups wanting to keep as many secrets as possible to be able to keep the shock and awe possible for the reveal.
