    Hey everyone,

I bought a 2020 Tundra (10 000km) in April last year and I live in North Ontario. Where I live, it's usually always around -10 to -30 degree Celcius.I always use my keyfob to start my truck in the morning a few times to let it warm up before I use it. Anyhow, all that to say, I come out of my workplace yesterday to find out there's a machine squeaking from under the hood. Turns out, it's my brand new truck. I'm not too happy about it.

Truck runs fine. Just annoying at idle. Sounds like it has something to do with a bearing, a belt somewhere in the middle near the fan.

Anybody else ran into the same issue? I already arranged an appointment but if it could be a DIY, I could save myself some time.

    Cheers to the weekend

Sorry to hear of your predicament, the only thing I would say is that for you to go to the dealer for service, it’s under warranty still, right? Whereabouts in northern Ontario do you live? I was born in Kirkland Lake

Hey. I live in Kirkland Lake it's been 3 years give or take. Yes, it's still under warranty until 60 000km. I guess I'll have to take a day off to bring it to the dealership.

You live in Kirkland Lake, wow that’s pretty amazing, it is indeed a small world, my mom grew up in Cochrane, I was only in Canada for around six months, then my dad got transferred to Detroit and I’ve lived in the states ever since

Very cold weather makes vehicles do odd things. Things squeak that never make noise any other time. Fluid in the shocks gets dense, making for a potentially jarring ride. Tires get hard and ride like bricks. Everything just feels stiff and painful. Hope you get it worked out. And living where you do, I am sure you know all about that really cold weather can do to a Tundra.

If its squealing like a pig at idle, it's most likely the serpentine belt... condensation gets trapped in the grooves and it squeals... pretty normal across all vehicles.. if you don't like it, swap to a gatorback serpentine belt which can prevent condensation getting trapped between the grooves and keep the squeal from happening.. if I understand you correctly

My truck squeals pretty badly when I first start it at -30. Pretty typical. I'm pretty sure it's just the fan belt complaining about the cold. But mine goes away after a few seconds.

Sounds just like serpentine belt stretch to me. Mine would squeal as well. I recommend replacing the belt with Gates or others have had luck with gator back. If at all possible add the block heater and plug it in to warm it up a couple hours before you start it. My truck was much happier starting in -20F in MT when I plugged it in and got warm faster. Not saying it HAS to be plugged in but it helps for sure. I had to replace idler pulley and tensioner as well and that stoped all of the squeaking, but I do have 140k miles on it too

How many times do you start it in the morning before driving it?

Had the same thing on a 2007, it was the idler pulley, it would only do it when cold. It split the belt as well. I had to have the deal pop the hood and listen after it sat overnight.

You're right. It's just that I owned many vehicles in my life and not many did that. Especially not a brand new one.

Depends on how cold it gets. Sometimes once, sometimes twice.
